Davidovich Fokina vs Van De Zandschulp
For a player that has struggled to gain consistency in his body and mind over the course of the majority of the 2023 tennis season, I am keen to be against Botic Van De Zandschulp today coming off a long 5 set match yesterday.
It was a much improved round 1 showing from Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, defeating Fils 7-6 6-1 6-2, winning 68% behind his first serve, 70% behind his second serve, and committing only 20 unforced errors for the match. It was a very measured performance, responding from a poor showing in Mallorca last week. The advantage for him with all the rain delays is that he knocked off Fils in 106 minutes, compared to Van De Zandschulp who spent over 4 hours on court.
It had been a torrid run for Van De Zandschulp since losing the Munich final to Rune in late April. If fact, the 5 set win over Zhang in round 1 was the first time he had won since Munich, going on a 6 game losing streak, including losses to Tiafoe and Ymer in the lead-up.
I can't say I was strongly convinced by that match with Zhang that he had turned a corner by any stretch, and on the quick back against a decent opponent, I will be opposing him today.

Stevanovic vs Korpatsch
The tight 3-set loss to Mirra Andreeva in the final round of qualifying is certainly looking like a decent form line for Tamara Korpatsch here, as she takes on Natalija Stevanovic for a place in the Wimbledon 3rd Round.
It's qualifier vs lucky loser, with Stevanovic the qualifier coming into this one off the match of her career against Karolina Pliskova in round 1. Pliskova was lost at sea for the majority of the match, notching up 14 winners and 22 unforced errors in the 2-6 3-6 loss. It backed up some solid qualifying form from Stevanovic, who I thought had one of the easier draws through qualifying overall. Nevertheless, you can only beat the players across the net from you, and she certainly enjoyed the pace of ball coming from the other end of the court in round 1.
The trouble is, she won't be afforded the same pace this time against Korpatsch. The German has done a solid job on the grass to date, and as mentioned earlier, pushed Andreeva to a decider in the final round of qualifying. The thing about Korpatsch is she will continue to grind until the very end, and we saw that in round 1 against Zhao. After losing the first set 1-6, Korpatsch responded well in the second, before running away with things 6-2 in the decider.
I have Korpatsch as a slight favourite here, so there is value in her current odds for a small play.
