Match Preview

A brave defensive performance in the fourth quarter helped Fremantle hold on in a 16 point win over the Bulldogs, to move to 2-2 in season 2025. Luke Jackson, Corey Wagner and Nathan O’Driscoll all suffered injuries that left Fremantle with a limited bench, but the Dockers found a way to get over the line.

It was the usual suspects who led the way for the Dockers as Caleb Serong (38 disposals) and Andy Brayshaw (29 disposals, 1 goal) dominated in the midfield, while Josh Treacy continued his strong start to the season with 3 goals.

After back-to-back defeats in excess of 70 points, there were many fears that things could get ugly when Richmond hosted Brisbane at the G. However, the Tigers hung in for most of the game scoring 90 points and only going down by 28 points.

Injuries have hit both sides, who have both been forced into multiple changes. Fremantle will be without Jackson, Wagner and O’Driscoll, while Richmond have confirmed young guns Sam Lalor (hip) and Harry Armstrong (hamstring) won’t play on Sunday.

There are some big positives at selection for the Dockers, with Hayden Young and Sean Darcy set to play their first game of the season.

Fremantle’s attacking game has begun to click over the last fortnight, after struggling in the first two weeks of the season. Scores of 106 and 97 points have been built off the back of improved efficiency inside forward 50. The Dockers have turned 43.1% and 47.7% of their inside 50’s into scores in their last two games, major improvements on 32.6% in Round 1 and 32.2% in Round 2.

Richmond have conceded scores of 140, 135 and 118 points across the last three weeks, and the task won’t get any easier against Treacy, Amiss and Bolton.

Another big concern for the Tigers is their inability to get pressure on the ball. Richmond ranks 17th in disposals, but 15th in tackles. The Tigers have lost the tackle count in their last three games by a combined 36, but have had a combined 155 fewer disposals than their opponents. They can’t get their hands on the footy and they can’t apply enough pressure, which is making things incredibly difficult for their backline.

Fremantle have enjoyed playing against Richmond in recent times, winning both clashes against the Tigers last season by more than 50 points. There’s plenty at stake for the Dockers, who could be in the eight by the end of the weekend if results go their way.

Richmond were competitive but still got beaten by five goals last week, the margin for error for such a young side is so small. The Dockers midfield should gain the upper hand in this clash, setting the platform for a big day for their forwards.

Caleb Serong 30+ Disposals: Week in week out the Fremantle superstar gets the job done, averaging 29.8 disposals per game in 2025. Serong has had 35 and 38 disposals in his last two games and his averaging 30 disposals per game across his last four games against Richmond.

Andrew Brayshaw 25+ Disposals: Brayshaw continues to be one of the most consistent players in the competition, with three performances of 25+ disposals in his first four games this season. Brayshaw has loved playing against Richmond with performances of 35, 31, 29, 28 and 39 disposals across his last five games against the Tigers.

Jye Amiss 2+ Goals: Amiss has kicked 6 goals across his last three games, and has kicked 7 goals across his last three games against Richmond. Fremantle’s midfield should dominate and give Amiss plenty of good looks.

Murphy Reid Anytime Goalscorer: Reid has shown great forward craft early on in his career, kicking 5 goals from his first four games. The Dockers will get plenty of supply inside 50, and Reid will be able to take advantage against a struggling Richmond defence.

SGM Odds: $3.40 at BoomBet
