Match Preview

Fremantle got on the board thanks to a comfortable 38 point win over West Coast. Caleb Serong (35 disposals) continued his dominance over the Eagles, while Andy Brayshaw (29 disposals), Jye Amiss (4 goals) and Josh Treacy (3 goals) were all impressive.

The Bulldogs produced a brilliant comeback enroute to a stirring 8 point win over Carlton last week. The Dogs didn’t kick a major until the nine minute mark of the second quarter, but grinded their way back into the game with an 8 goal to 4 second half.

Stand in skipper Tom Liberatore was massive with 30 disposals and a goal, while young gun Sam Davidson produced a stellar performance in just his third game, recording 31 disposals.

The Bulldogs have made no change to their side this week, while Fremantle have brought Jaeger O’Meara and Corey Wagner into the side, with James Aish and Neil Erasmus making way.

Although it wasn’t against a great opposition, the Dockers got back to their brand of football against their arch rivals. Fremantle recorded +53 disposals, +28 inside 50’s, +15 clearances and +14 contested possessions. They dominated on the inside and controlled the outside, which allowed for a much-improved performance on the scoring front.

The clearance dominance allowed the Dockers to get good looks inside 50, taking a mammoth 21 marks inside 50. It could’ve been a more dominant victory if not for poor accuracy, with Fremantle kicking 15.16.

If Fremantle can win the battle in the middle of the ground, they will go a long way towards winning this game given the way the Dogs can be stretched by sides with strong key forwards. The Bulldogs conceded 8 goals to Brodie Kemp and Charlie Curnow last week, so Treacy and Amiss will be a big test for the Dogs defence.

One area that Luke Beveridge’s side has improved dramatically in this season is their efficiency inside forward 50. The Dogs current rank 5th for goals per inside 50 (25.8%), after ranking 10th in this category in 2024. The Bulldogs avenue to winning this game is going to have to be through an efficient performance inside forward 50.

The Western Bulldogs have done an excellent job to be 2-1 despite the amount of injuries they have had to deal with so far, however it does make this clash a big challenge given Fremantle’s quality in the midfield. The Dockers height in their forward line will be the difference in this clash, with their key forwards taking control of this clash.

Fremantle -4.5

Caleb Serong 25+ Disposals: After a quiet outing in Round 2, Serong bounced back in brilliant fashion with 35 disposals against the Eagles. Serong loves playing against the Dogs with returns of 28, 37, 25, 26 and 33 disposals in his last 5 games against the Bulldogs.

Andrew Brayshaw 25+ Disposals: Like Serong, Brayshaw bounced back from a poor outing in Round 2, to record 29 disposals in the Derby. Brayshaw has hit the 25+ disposal mark in 7 of his last 9 games.

Tom Liberatore 25+ Disposals: With plenty of his midfielders out through injury, Liberatore has put the Bulldogs on his back in 2025. 28, 34 and 30 disposals to start the season has been a key factor in the Dogs positive start to 2025. Liberatore has recorded 28, 21, 25 and 28 disposals in his last four games against Fremantle.

Isiah Dudley Anytime Goal scorer: The mature age recruit who signed during the SSP period had an excellent performance in debut, kicking 2 goals against West Coast. If the Dockers forwards get similar supply to last week, Dudley will be amongst the goal kickers again.

SGM Odds: $3.20 at BoomBet
