Match Preview
The Saints make their way to Adelaide this week and will stay there after Sunday’s clash, with a game against GWS awaiting next weekend for Gather Round. It’s a tricky start to the year for the Saints, who haven’t had much success in Adelaide in recent years and find themselves playing three of their first five games of the year there.
After a disappointing loss to Adelaide in Round 1, the Saints have bounced back to win their last two games, a brilliant win over the Cats, followed by a demolition job over the Tigers last week. Jack Sinclair has been one of the more influential players in the league through three rounds while midfielder Jack Macrae has looked like the best off-season recruit so far.
Jack Steele was set to return after missing last week but has been ruled out yet again. Also missing out will be impressive youngster Liam O’Connell, who enters the concussion protocols after a collision with Tom Lynch last week.
The Power were comfortably handled by the Magpies in Round 1, going down by 91 points at the MCG. They bounced back in Round 2 with a dominant victory over the Tigers in Round 2 but I think their true 2025 form probably lies in their close loss to the Bombers last week. They are around the mark, and should be far more competitive once they get some of their long injury list back in the mix, which should start to happen this week.
Star midfielder Zak Butters will make his season debut and will be joined by a few other big inclusions in Ollie Lord and Lachie Jones. Still on the sidelines for the Power is Ryan Burton, Jack Lukosius, Todd Marshall and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher.
St Kilda have built their game around defence in the first two years of Ross Lyon’s 2nd tenure at the club, but it seems that they are willing to play a faster brand of football this season, built on the back of some of the best ball users in the league in Sinclair, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Brad Hill.
They thrive under perfect ball movement conditions at Marvel, but they have struggled mightily when traveling West in previous seasons. I think this is a great opportunity to slay that demon here, as they run into what will be a pretty underdone Port Adelaide side struggling for form. I think with their new found attacking style, they can put the pressure on the Power here and cover the 13.5 point line, if not win outright.

Rowan Marshall 20+ Disposals - Has looked like an All-Australian ruckman contender through the early weeks of the season, putting up monster numbers while running opposition rucks off their feet. 29 and 23 in the last two games and should be heavily in the mix again this week.
Miles Bergman 20+ Disposals - Had a slow start to the season with just 15 in the loss to the Magpies but has bounced back in the last two weeks with 21 against the Tigers and 26 against the Bombers. Mixing a lot of midfield time in with his usual work in defence.
Cooper Sharman 2+ Goals - Played his first game of the season last week and booted 2.1 and had another few opportunities as one of the Saints main targets up forward in the absence of Max King. Finished last season kicking multiple goals in six of his last eight games.
SGM Odds: $4.75 at BoomBet
