With the Panthers riding a five-game losing streak, they are beyond desperate to get a win and turn their season around. Can they do it, or will the Roosters make it two from two in the season series between the teams, and pile further misery on the Panthers’ and their fans?

Match Preview
The Roosters came into their round 6 clash with the Broncos last week sporting a three-game losing streak and closed massive 14.5-point underdogs. It didn’t matter, as they looked great, beating the Broncos at Suncorp 26-16. James Tedesco was once again instrumental, running for 224 metres, breaking the line once, and serving up a try assist.
The Panthers came into round 6 desperate to turn their fortunes around, but they went and put in their worst performance of the season, getting spanked by the Dolphins 30-12 on Thursday night. Once again it was the defence of the Panthers, the side of the ball they have built their four premierships on, that struggled. Despite having more ball and making more metres, the Panthers couldn’t hold the Dolphins, conceding 30+ points for the 3rd time this season.
These teams met back in round 2 at CommBank Stadium, with the Panthers closing massive 24.5-point favourites. In a game that was described by James Tedesco as one of his proudest wins as a Rooster, the Roosters managed the massive upset, winning 38-32. It was a back-and-forth battle for the most part, before the Roosters broke away in the middle part of the second half, eventually leading 38-20 with 7 minutes remaining. The Panthers poured it on late, but it wasn’t enough.
This week, the Panthers opened 9.5-point favourites on the lookahead, before they again lost last week, and the Roosters were massive winners over the Broncos. This shifted the number at re-open, with the Panthers all the way in to just 3.5-point favourites. The spread is still 3.5, and it will be very interesting to see whether Panthers’ money comes in late, given the huge downgrade they have received. For reference, five weeks ago, the Panthers were rated a 21.5-point better team than the Roosters on a neutral field, and now they are just a 6.5-point better team. That’s a massive downgrade for a four-time defending premier.
I make this game pretty much a pick em’, and as such I see value in the Roosters at the money line here. The Panthers appear unable to defend, and the constant changing to their backline isn’t helping with combinations. The Roosters to get the win here, and all but end the chances of the Panthers winning five straight.
The total opened 46.5, where it has remained all week. My fair is 48, so not enough value to make a play on the total.
