The final game on NRL Super Saturday heads to Darwin with the Eels hosting the Raiders. A yearly ritual for the Eels, they take the Raiders to foreign conditions in a chance to throw their opponents off their game. They will be hoping that works the trick to bring these two sides closer than the NRL ladder suggests. Match Preview
The Eels captured their first win of the season with a spirited Golden Point victory over the Dragons at home. Trailing 14-8 at HT, they were in the contest but still making mistakes on both sides of the ball. They improved in the second half to prevail 23-22; their victory was built on possession (54%) and a high completion rate (83%). They were also strong carrying the ball (608pcm’s & 6 line breaks).
The Raiders produced a stunning last gasp (upset) victory over the Sharks, prevailing 24-20. Staying level with their opponents for majority of the match, there was little to separate them. They managed this with an inferior share of possession (48%) and a worse completion rate (81%); their defence was strong and was a cornerstone as they missed just 24 tackles and allowed only 2 line breaks.
All signs point towards the Raiders in this contest. The Eels were lucky last week, and the shortcomings of their opponents played into their favour. The factor countering this suggestion is that the Raiders have been winless in their two trips north to Darwin, while the Eels have a 60% success rate. On the other side of things, the Raiders have won 4 of the past 6 against the Eels.
The disparity between the Eels attack and defence is a cause for concern; they average just 13ppg in attack and concede 30ppg in defence compared to the Raiders 23ppg and 24ppg respectively. This is something you would expect the Raiders to focus on; if they can be strong defensively and limit their opponents’ attacking opportunities, they will be presented with enough of their own. This should mean that they cover the line and capture their first win at this venue.

Leg 1: Raiders 13+ - the average margin of victory in the past 5 games is 21.4 points, with 3 results being by 22 or more points.
Leg 2: Over 46.5 points – the average total points in the past 5 matches is 47.8 points. The Eels concede far too many over 80 minutes and this, combined with the selection above, should drive the total up.
Leg 3: Savage to score – he has crossed 3 times this season already and while not the top scorer, continues to pop up in the right place and have a hand in several attacking opportunities across 80 minutes.
SGM Odds: $5.00 at BoomBet
