Match Preview
The Brisbane Lions look set to continue their dominant form as they face the Western Bulldogs at Norwood Oval. With a 4-0 start to the season, the Lions are riding a nine-game winning streak dating back to August last year. Despite missing key players like Kai Lohmann and Brandon Starcevich due to injuries, the Lions' depth and experience give them a significant edge over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs, currently at 2-2, have shown flashes of brilliance, particularly through rising star Sam Darcy, who has kicked 12 goals in four games. However, the team is grappling with injuries to key players such as captain Marcus Bontempelli, Adam Treloar, and Cody Weightman. Coach Luke Beveridge is introducing young talent like Cooper Hynes to try to bolster the lineup, but the lack of experience could be a hurdle against a seasoned Lions side.
Brisbane's midfield, featuring Lachie Neale, Josh Dunkley, Hugh McCluggage, and the impressive Will Ashcroft, has been instrumental in their success. Ashcroft's recent performance, with 24 disposals and two goals, highlights the Lions' midfield dominance. Their familiarity with Norwood Oval's unique dimensions further strengthens their position, as the ground's narrower layout suits their contested style of play.
Betting markets favour the Lions, with odds reflecting their strong form and the Bulldogs' injury woes. Given the current dynamics, I firmly expect the Lions to not only win but also cover the -12.5 spread comfortably. Their cohesive gameplay and depth make them a formidable opponent, and unless the Bulldogs can produce an exceptional performance, the Lions are poised to extend their winning streak.

Bailey Dale 25+ Disposals – Averaging 26.5 disposals per game this season and has only fallen below 25 once. I’m expecting him to get plenty of ball again here.
Hugh McCluggage 25+ Disposals – The narrow Norwood Oval should result in plenty of stoppages which bodes well for midfielders. McCluggage has been in stellar form this season.
Will Ashcroft 25+ Disposals – Ashcroft continues to get better with each game and should get plenty of footy again for the reasons mentioned above. Happy to back in the young star.
SGM Odds: $4.10 at BoomBet
