After the Broncos ran riot against the Tigers last weekend, they look to keep the good times rolling as they take on the Roosters on Friday night. The Roosters are sporting a three-game losing streak, bettered only by the Panthers (4), and it does not get any easier for them having to face the Broncos at Suncorp. This could be one way traffic, but the best way to enjoy these games is having a punt! Let’s make some cash.

Match Preview
The Broncos were in a dog fight for the opening 35 minutes of their matchup last week with the Tigers, as they trailed 12-6 with just three minutes left in the first half. Not only were they down on the scoreboard, but the Tigers also actually looked the better team in the first half and deserved to go into the break with the lead. Alas, the Broncos managed a try and a penalty goal before the half to take the lead. Two tries in the opening four minutes of the second half to the home side, and they were off to the races, eventually winning 46-24.
The Roosters, meanwhile, had more than enough ball and opportunities to easily beat a Rabbitohs outfit who lost halfback Jaime Humphreys after five minutes, Cody Walker right after half time, and Mikaele Ravalawa after 48 minutes. It was a horrible loss for the Roosters, and despite their massive upset over the Panthers in round 2, they just don’t look very good this season. James Tedesco continues to do everything he can to pull the Roosters up, but he can’t do it alone.
These teams met twice last season, and it was two from two for the Roosters. In round 1 the teams met in Las Vegas, where the Broncos closed 3-point favourites at the neutral site, with the total closing 39.5. Whilst the Roosters were the better team, the Broncos showed that their Grand Final appearance in 2023 might not be replicable in 2024, as they made 15 errors and could only manage one line-break.
The teams met again in round 9 at Suncorp Stadium, with the Broncos closing massive 8.5-point favourites, and the total closing 44.5. Despite the Broncos scoring early, the Roosters ran in three unanswered tries in the first half, to lead 18-6. Two quick second half tries to the Broncos had the game tied up after 50 minutes, but four unanswered tries from the Roosters in 20 minutes was enough for the road team to easily win 40-18.
More appropriate to look at is the round 1 clash between these two sides. The Roosters closed massive 8.5-point home favourites, but it was all the Broncos, as they stormed to a 50-14 victory. The Broncos dominated every aspect of the game, and it’s hard to see how the Roosters turn this around in 5 weeks.
The Broncos were listed as massive 12.5-point favourites on the look ahead line, and that blew out to 13.5 upon re-opening on Monday. Money has continued to come in on the Broncos, as they now sit as 15.5-point favourites. I don’t see this stopping, and 16.5/17.5 seems like a likely closing line. The question is, will the Roosters get their backs up at this somewhat disrespectful line, or will the Broncos name their score this week? Based on this season’s numbers, I can make this spread 20+, however I believe the line should be around 15.5, and as such I won’t be betting the line.
As for the total, it opened 50.5, and was quickly bet down to 49.5, before bouncing back to the current total of 50.5. It’s smack bang on my number, however I would lean towards the over, based on my actual bet.
My bet for this game will be the Broncos to go over their team total, which currently sits in the low 30’s. The Roosters are conceding 29 points per game, whilst the Broncos are scoring 32. However, as already shown in round 1, the Broncos can dominate this defence. Give me the Broncos over.

Leg 1: J Arthars (1+ try) – Arthars can’t stop scoring this season and coming up against the porous Roosters right-edge defence, Arthars should score at least one.
Leg 2: S Cobbo (1+ try) – Four tries in five games for Cobbo, including a hat-trick in round 1. Cobbo should get one.
Leg 3: G Shibasaki (1+ try) – See Arthars, the Broncos left side should terrorise the Roosters defence.
SGM Odds: $5.50 at BoomBet
