Match Preview
After a brilliant three game stretch which saw the Saints rack up wins against Geelong, Port Adelaide and Richmond, they have gone on to drop their last two games, the most recent of which an embarrassing 71 points loss to the Bulldogs on Easter Sunday.
The Saints were obliterated by Marcus Bontempelli and the Bulldogs midfield, as their serious lack of star power in the middle of the ground was exposed. Jack Macrae has been serviceable since coming across from the Bulldogs but the likes of Jack Steele and Zak Jones looked way off the pace in the loss. The Saints seriously lack x-factor in the midfield, and it may be time to ‘break glass in case of emergency’ and send half backers Jack Sinclair and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera into centre bounces.
One massive boost for the Saints this week will be the inclusion of Dougal Howard, who makes his season debut after recovering from a shoulder injury. The Saints have plugged the hole down back with Anthony Caminiti so far this season, but would surely rather him playing forward given the continued absence of Max King.
The Lions were undefeated as they went into their Round 6 clash with the Pies and were the favourites at the Gabba. A rampant Collingwood side handed them a 52 point loss as the Lions struggled to move the ball against the Pies structured defence.
While it was certainly a little concerning for the Lions, every team in the league has had at least one poor, out of character performance already this season. Brisbane fans will no doubt be chalking it up to that and hoping the game against the Saints provides a good bounce back opportunity.
The Lions will make just one chance for the clash, as talented small forward Kai Lohmann makes his way back into the side after recovering from a knee injury a few weeks early.
A few weeks ago, I would have picked the Saints to be really competitive at Marvel and probably cover the 14.5 point line. However, after last week's midfield performance against the Dogs, I can’t see how they could possibly compete against a midfield contingent that is arguably better with the likes of Neale, Dunkley, Bailey, McCluggage and the Ashcrofts.
Hard to like the Saints in their current form. The Lions are coming off a loss and will be desperate to bounce back here. Back them to bring their a-game and cover the 14.5 point line.

Callum Ah Chee Anytime Goal Scorer - Ah Chee has been great so far this season, booting seven goals in six games. Kicked three goals in two games against the Saints last season and could get a good matchup here against a depleted Saints defence.
Lachie Neale 25+ Disposals - Outside of Round 1 where Neale had just 10 touches in an uncharacteristic performance, Neale has been great this season, racking up 25+ touches in his last three straight games and averaging 31.6 in that span. Played two games against the Saints last season and averaged 26.5 across those two.
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera 25+ Disposals - Has been the Saints best player along with Sinclair this season, averaging 26.5 disposals per game across his six games. Has only failed to reach 25 touches once this season and had 23 against the Lions last year.
SGM Odds: $2.80 at BoomBet
