Day two at the ‘Bool showcases The Galleywood Hurdle over 3200m, while the annual Wangoom Handicap highlights the runners on the flat with Tuvalu a local favourite for trainer Lindsey Smith. The track is likely going to remain Soft but it will be best to check conditions on Wednesday morning. The first kicks us off at 11:20am (AEST), and Brendan Bunworth has you covered with his best racing tips for the day.
Warrnambool Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 1st 2024
Race 4: Victory Dunroe Steeplechase - 12:55pm (AEST)
(2) Duke of Bedford looks good here in what is a large field for jumpers. Andrew Bobbin and Tom Ryan combine with a gelding who won a Steeplechase at Ballarat on April 7 in the lead up to this race. He has already won over this distance and since starting his jumps career he has won two races. He has won 2 races with Ryan on top and the connection is well and truly forming between the pair.
(5) Gunaluva will appreciate having no rain around and will run well. He was only beaten a nose last start and this distance holds no dramas to him.
(7) Fort Charles hasn’t won in almost 2 years but can place for a stable who has trained many a jumps winner (Musgrove).

Race 6: The Galleywood Hurdle - 2:05pm (AEST)
(10) The Mighty Spar is very consistent and comes into The Galleywood after coming 4th when favourite at Pakenham last start. This is his Grand Final though and McCarthy stays with him on top. He has raced in the top 3 on 9 occasions from his 15 tries and he did win at Matamata (NZ) just six weeks ago.
(12) Chains of Honour hasn’t won in almost two years but did look good in his latest trial. It's been a long time since he has been over the hurdles but the Maher stables knows what it's doing. He has won over the distance before so that's no issue.
(11) Port Guillaume gets the blinkers off again after running poor in his last few races. Before that he was running quite well in 2023. Hasn’t raced in a month but the Hayes boys have a plan and it will be interesting to see the results.

Race 8: The Wangoom Handicap - 3:20pm (AEST)
(8) Nicolini Vito was huge last start when 2nd at Mornington when beaten a nostril. He does get back in his races but The Wangoom usually has early pace so that just might suit his racing pattern late. A Good or Soft track is his favourite so he gets the right conditions here. It's his first try at The Bool but he has won on 3 occasions over the 1200m. He has been in the money on 50 percent of his career runs and at double figure odds is worth an each-way play.
(7) Flash Flood resumes and does go well when first up. His Soft track form is good and he has gone well in recent jumpouts. He should settle in around 3rd position in the run and should be thereabouts late.
(5) Frankie Pinot goes well over 1200m and has raced well at Warrnambool previously. He goes well for Maddi Lloyd and settling midfield should see him finish off well in a race where I am leaving out the favourites Midtown Boss and Tuvalu.
