2024 US Open Tennis Tips - Day 4
David Goffin vs Adrian Mannarino
Friday August 30th, 4:30am AEST
I was quite bullish on Adrian Mannarino being able to get back on the winners list as an underdog in round 1, and he managed to do it in convincing fashion. Against a more proven player opponent, this time with actual form lines in recent months, is Mannarino going to make it back to back wins?
Personally, I cannot justify taking Mannarino at any capacity in this match-up, be it at the moneyline as a large underdog, or the +4.5 game handicap. Yes, the win in round 1 was solid, however it needs to be acknowledged that Mannarino was 1 win and 17 losses through his last 18 matches, Coric has lacked form and fitness across 2024, and the Croatian produced 23 winners and 50 unforced errors in the match-up. For what it is worth, Mannarino didn’t dominate Coric, but did take advantage of Coric’s errors. Mannarino produced only 10 winners across the course of the 3 sets, which isn’t going to hold up against David Goffin.
Goffin on the other hand was the aggressor as an underdog against Alejandro Tabilo, and was able to win two tight sets either side of a dominant 6-1 second set. His overall body of form is sound and although I had some question marks about his ability to handle the warmer conditions in round 1, I think he is well placed here in another match-up with another left hander.

Caroline Wozniacki vs Renata Zarazua
Friday August 30th, 11:30am AEST
It was a dominant round 1 win from Caroline Wozniacki, dropping one game. Although I don’t anticipate this one being quite so dominant, I don’t see this match-up today being a bad one for her either.
The win from Renata Zarazua over Caroline Garcia was solid, though I don’t have that win as carrying a significant amount of weight given the form of Garcia more recently. Much like Mannarino in the preview above, Zarazua only produced 10 winners through her round 1 win. If Zarazua is only producing 10 winners against Garcia, I do have some pretty major concerns for her against Wozniacki given her overall return game and general ability.
I was anticipating a game handicap of 6.5 games in the night time conditions, with Wozniacki’s price shorter than Zarazua at the handicap, so I’m comfortable stepping into a 2 unit selection here on the -5.5 games for $1.90+.
Caroline Wozniacki -5.5 games
