2023 US Open Betting Tips
ATP US Open – Rublev vs Ruusuvuori
I do get the feeling when running the numbers on this match that a little too much has been read into a recent meeting between these two players. Andrey Rublev and Emil Ruusuvuori met in Cincinnati, with Rublev sitting at a starting price around $1.33. Ruusuvuori came away with the win that day 7-6(10) 5-7 7-6(3), however when you run the numbers and look at the performances of both players, there is a significant level of room for improvement with regards to Rublev. The Russian only put half of his first serves into play (Ruusuvuori 63%), generated more break points, and won more service and return games for the match. The pricing here for a best-of-5 set match is very similar to what we saw in Cincinnati, which I am also not sure that I agree with, as I would have the odds a little closer to their 2023 Australian Open meeting, where Rublev prevailed 6-2 6-4 6-7 6-3.
Ruusuvuori is not a player I would label as dominant on the return of serve, and Rublev at this game handicap should cover in 3 or 4 sets, and who knows, potentially in 5 sets as well if there are tiebreaks involved. I am comfortable with a 1 unit selection on Rublev at the game handicap.

WTA US Open – Montgomery vs Lys
I have the odds in this match-up being a little closer to a coin flip than what the bookmakers are currently offering. Robin Montgomery comes into this match-up as the beneficiary of a wildcard, and has shown some solid North American hardcourt form more recently. The 18 year old and 2021 US Open junior singles winner is edging towards the Top 100, and is starting to produce a more consistent level, one of the toughest things for a young player to do as they look to make a name for themselves on the main tour.
I wonder if Eva Lys winning three matches in qualifying has been a touch overrated by the books here. It was one of the more comfortable draws through to the main draw when you consider the current form of each of her three opponents, and when you zoom out and look at the overall form on the hardcourt, I am struggling to justify how short Lys currently is. Montgomery at the underdog price here at home is worth a small play.
