The Boston Celtics completed their sweep of the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, and now it’s the Dallas Mavericks who have their chance to complete a sweep in their NBA Conference Finals matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Mavericks lead this best-of-seven series 3-0 and will be eyeing off their fourth win at home on Wednesday.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Dallas Mavericks

Series score: Dallas Mavericks lead 3-0
Game 3 in Dallas took on a little bit of a different script compared Games 1 & 2 in Minnesota. This time it was the Mavericks who came out of the blocks the quickest, opening up a five-point lead at the first break before extending it to an eight-point advantage at half time. The Timberwolves showed some fight and took the lead on numerous occasions in the second half, but ultimately it was the Mavericks who had superior composure down the stretch to win by nine points and take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals.
The superstar guard duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving proved too much once again on Monday. They combined for 66 points (33 each) including 21 points in the fourth quarter. In contrast, Anthony Edwards scored just six of his 26 points in the final term, while Karl-Anthony Towns scored just 15 for the game on a horrible 5-18 clip including 0-8 from three.
The series remains in Dallas for Game 4 where the Mavs have a chance to close it out in a sweep and head to the NBA Finals for the first time since they were victorious in 2011. On the other hand, the Timberwolves will have hopes of forcing a Game 5 which will be back on their home floor in Minnesota on Friday.
In important lineup news, Luka Doncic is currently listed as questionable to play as he continues to battle with knee soreness, although he seems more likely than not to suit up. Rookie Dereck Lively has been ruled out with a neck sprain, which is a big blow for the Mavericks. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have a clean bill of health.
Match Prediction: Although the series scoreline of 3-0 suggests it’s been all one-way traffic for the Mavericks, that’s not entirely the case. The Timberwolves have lost the three games by a combined 12 points and have led during stages of the fourth quarter in each of them. And with Doncic banged up and Lively out, there’s a real chance for the Timberwolves to make some inroads in this series and send it back to Minnesota for Game 5. I’m expecting an ultra-aggressive Anthony Edwards from the jump and for the visitors to secure a crucial win.

Anthony Edwards 30+ Points – Ant Man is yet to really explode in this series but did ramp it up in Game 3 with 26 points on 24 shots. Nobody likes getting swept, especially superstars, so I expect him to leave everything out there.
Kyrie Irving 25+ Points – Luka is a little banged up and while he should still play, the Mavs will require Irving to be a little more aggressive. He’s averaging 27 points in this series and should have a big impact again here.
Daniel Gafford 2+ Blocks – With Dereck Lively out, Daniel Gafford will need to step up and play big minutes at the centre position. He’s had eight blocks across his last two games and should get another couple in this one.
