NBL25 Round 10 Preview & Betting Tips
Cairns Taipans vs Sydney Kings
Friday 7:30pm AEDT, Cairns Convention Centre
The Cairns Taipans’ season started full of promise with three wins from their first four games, but that’s when the wins completely dried up. Due to injuries and poor form, they enter Round 10 on the bottom of the standings and are riding an embarrassing eight-game losing streak.
Their most recent game was against the third-placed Breakers in Cairns and while they fought hard on the defensive end, the offensive production just simply wasn’t there as they posted a season-low 69 points. The good news is the likes of Taran Armstrong and Tanner Groves have both had an extra week off to get their bodies right after an injury-riddle start to the season, so hopefully they can hit the ground running in Round 10.
The Sydney Kings entered NBL25 as the clear Championship favourites due to the star-studded roster they assembled, coupled with the appointment of storied coach Brian Goorjian. And while there have been some highs throughout the opening nine rounds, it’s fair to say the Kings have been disappointing overall as they sport a 7-6 record which places them fifth in the standings.
The Kings went into the FIBA break off a poor seven-point loss against the Hawks in the Freeway Series. They failed to reach the 80-point mark for the second straight game and for the third time for the season overall. In positive news, star guard Jaylen Adams looks back to his best after battling injury four a couple of keeps, and his production going forward will remain crucial.
Game Prediction: The international break came at a good time for both clubs, although even sooner would’ve been beneficial. For the Snakes, they’ve been banged up all season and are riding an eight-game losing streak, but now have an almost fully healthy roster to work with. For the Kings, they needed the extra week off to work on their preferred rotations and to also give the likes of Adams and Cooks to get over some niggling injuries.
There’s no question that the Kings have by far the more talented roster and at full strength (minus Galloway), they have absolutely no excuses here. They destroyed the Snakes by 26 points when they met early on in the season and although the Snakes will put up a better fight on their home deck, the Kings should simply be winning this comfortably. However, due to their inconsistencies, I’ll only be staking the one unit here.
Kings -4.5
