The Super Rugby AU season continues on Friday night with a crucial matchup between the suddenly high-flying Waratahs and winless Force from the Gold Coast. Then on Saturday night, the QLD Reds will be hoping for an improved performance as they host the red-hot Rebels.
Super Rugby Preview Round 7 Betting Tips
Western Force vs New South Waratahs
Fri, Aug 14 7:05pm (AEST)
The 0-4 Western Force will return from their second bye of the season and will continue in their season for a win in Super Rugby AU. Outside of a 24-0 crushing loss to the Brumbies, the Force have been a tough opponent in their other 3 losses and we feel a win is right around the corner. However, their defence will need to be at its 100% best after the 'Tahs performance last week.
We tipped the Waratahs to compete with the Reds last week but we didn't expect a 45-12 scoreline as the 'Tahs ran riot at the SCG. Jake Gordon was the star with a hat-trick and the game was basically over after 40 minutes as the home side headed to the sheds with a 38-0 lead. So the victory has moved the Waratahs into 3rd on the ladder and they'll be eyeing off a top 2 spot on Friday night.
These two sides have already met in 2020 with the Waratahs taking the points 23-14. After last week's performance against the Reds, we feel they have the attacking confidence to really trouble the Force and it's hard to see this being a close game. So take on the red-hot 'Tahs at the line as they continue their march up the ladder.
Queensland Reds vs Melbourne Rebels
Sat, Aug 15 7:15pm (AEST)
After two straight defeats, this is a crucial clash for the QLD Reds. Last week's 45-12 loss to the Waratahs was especially disappointing considering they almost upset the Brumbies in Canberra previously. So with their spot in the top 2 on the ladder now in jeopardy, the Reds will need to recapture their earlier season form as they meet the Rebels at home this Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Rebels are coming into this clash after a huge upset over the ladder leading Brumbies. The key for Melbourne was getting off to a fast start as they scored two early tries and opened up a 27-7 lead at one stage. So after 3 straight victories, the Rebels are back in contention for the finals and this is another must-win game against the Reds.
This is another re-match in Super Rugby AU after these two sides played in an interesting 18-18 draw last month. On form at the moment, it's hard to look past the Rebels, especially after beating the Brumbies. So to find them as underdogs for this matchup, is fairly juicy. Obviously, the Reds are generally a better side at Suncorp but last week's loss exposed their defence and the Rebels should take full advantage.
