2024 AFL Round 21 Preview & Betting Tips
Port Adelaide vs Sydney Swans
Saturday 7:30pm AEST, August 3rd, Adelaide Oval
I am not sure what to make of the win from Port Adelaide last Friday night against the Carlton Blues. The Blues were coming off a five-day break, had injuries...did they make the Power look good or was there some genuine brilliance about the way Port Adelaide went about it? Whatever the case, they beat a top team in Melbourne and if you want to be a genuine premiership threat, you have to win on the road, which they have become quite good at. Now they return home so it will be fascinating to see how they go, especially with an unchanged line up.
I think you have to give good sides one bad game and that was it for the Swans last week against the Doggies. They were never really in the contest and as said last week by coach John Longmire, it was the first proper disappointing performance of the year for them. Rowbottom returns and his defensive pressure in the midfield will very much be welcomed. You'd also like to think that after that performance, they would have brought the mouth guards this week for training and their best is clearly better than that of the Power.
Match Prediction: Good sides deserve a mulligan and Sydney had theirs last week against the Doggies. Every other loss this year, a kick and they win. This game, they were never in the hunt and quite disappointing. But, they do get some ins this weekend, hopefully Dane Rampe, who was badly missed in the back six. They have a good record at the Adelaide Oval and take on Port Adelaide. The Power...were they flattered last week? Carlton were off the five-day break and missing key players. But that said, they had to win the game and their midfield in the second half really got to work. Sydney is still #1 seed IMO and I'll tip them to bounce back.

Swans to Win: Happy to back in the Swans here, which is pretty much a Head2Head option.
Isaac Heeney 20+ Disposals: He started off 2024 with an absolute bang but his last couple of months has been a bit on the ordinary side. I think he'll want a big game with the Finals fast approaching.
Chad Warner 20+ Disposals: Star midfielder who has also come off the boil in recent weeks but the open surroundings of the Adelaide Oval will be ideal for his running capacity.
Errol Gulden 25+ Disposals: Ball magnet who can hold his head high vs the two guys mentioned above. Named to be in the half forward flank but with his engine, he'll be in play throughout and should get 25+.
SGM Odds: $3.90 at BoomBet
