Detroit Golf Club hosts the 72-hole tournament which sees a few major players attending this year with the likes of Justin THOMAS, Colin MORIKAWA, Rickie FOWLER and last year’s winner Tony FINAU.
The Field
The 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic is set for close to $9million with the winner expected to take home just over $1.5Million. This is an event that hasn’t drawn many of the big names over the past years, but this year appears to be different with several big names participating which will make for great viewing and for a great contest. Ricky Fowler will be wanting to redeem his fast start at the Open where he looked a big chance at winning it early on. Tony FINAU will be wanting to back up his result from last year taking this one home to his big family and then we get to see Justin THOMAS and Colin MORIKAWA who can both be very hard to beat when they come to play their quality golf. This classic is set to be a cracker and one to watch.
The Course
The course is a par 72 that is just over 6.6km in distance. The course is almost like a parkland with a tree line along the fairways. Therefore, there appears to be minimal danger coming off the tee for these players. The course is suited for those experts in putting as that is what will win the rounds here as majority of the players will have little to no trouble getting the ball there.
Betting Tips
Tony FINAU $16/$2.80 (WIN/TOP 10) – Bet Now at TAB
He has been consistent enough to feature again here and back up last years result of taking this event out. He has only missed the cut once since November last year and has found himself with a few nice rounds. Last week he finished -9 T45. FINAU loves his short game and that will be key if he is to win this event.
Justin THOMAS $17/$3.20 (WIN/TOP 10) – Bet Now at Ladbrokes
JT finally showed some form at the travellers that we know he is capable of. Prior to that he was cut twice. JT loves a new course and that’s what he gets here in Detroit. He has won 3 tournaments when he has been faced with a new course which is what appeals to me about JT here and the fact that he hit form last week, I’m sure he will be keen to follow on with that effort and give this a red-hot crack.
Rickie FOWLER $15/$3 (WIN/TOP 10) – Bet Now at Neds
How consistent has Rickie been this season? Started extremely well in the US Open and we all thought he was going to take it out after 2 rounds. 8 of his last 9 tournaments he has finished in the top 20 which is an impressive stat. I’m really keen on taking him at $3 to finish top 10 or you can get a nice $2 price to finish top 20.
