Match Preview
The Dragons were their own worst enemy last week against the Eels, contributing in numerous ways to their upset loss on the road. Playing strongly in the first half, they held a 14-8 lead into HT. With just 46% and a 73% completion rate, they were always going to find it tough. They continually gave their opponents attacking opportunities in positive field position; despite their defence being strong, they couldn’t completely shut their opponents out of the game. This is an area they must improve upon.
The Titans were also upset, losing at home to the Dolphins. They too suffered from an inferior share of the ball (45%) and just a satisfactory completion rate (72%). Allowing 9.2m per carry also hampered their ability to build themselves into the contest. It was a disappointing outcome for two teams who were strong in Round 4.
The Titans are up against it in this contest. Not only have the Dragons won 4 of the past 5 matches between these two sides, but the Titans are also winless at this ground at 6 attempts. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui’s absence hurts the visitors, but they are boosted by the return of Fifita (wing), allowing Fermor to strengthen the back row. The Dragons are still a team which promises so much at times, as are the Titans.
Such is the similarities between these two teams, they are sides which confidence is low on. Both can easily produce a 30-point victory as concede the same margin in the opening half. It is best to play it safe for this contest. The season average in attack (Dragons 20ppg vs Titans 22ppg) and defence (Dragons 21ppg vs Titans 22ppg) suggests that this game is set to be a close contest. Use this to your advantage and keep your stake low; there are better games this weekend to invest your money on.
