PGA Tour Phoenix Open Betting Tips
TPC Scottsdale, Thursday 6th - Sunday 9th February
The 2025 PGA Tour is in full swing now, with the vast majority of top tier players having returned from their off season break in the last few weeks, culminating in Rory McIlroy picking up the trophy at Pebble Beach last weekend. Although not an elevated event this season, the alure of the Phoenix Open and it's party atmosphere is clearly still appealing to the stars of the tour, as it has attracted a strong field.
The Field
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is back in action this week, making his 2nd start of the season after finishing T9 at Pebble Beach. He sits atop the betting, closely followed by a healthy list of stars in Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Sam Burns, Tom Kim, Sepp Straka and Sahith Theegala.
Past winners of the Phoenix Open who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Scheffler, who won in back to back years in 2022 and 2023. Nick Taylor, Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland and Hideki Matsuyama are also previous winners.
The Course
TPC Scottsdale has been the host of the Phoenix Open since all the way back in 1987. It is a Par 71 at just over 7,200 yards and plays as a well rounded challenge for all types of golfers. Strong ball striking, particularly off the tee is at a premium at TPC Scottsdale given water is in play on a bunch of holes.
The highlight of TPC Scottsdale, however, is undoubtedly the Par 3 16th 'Party Hole', which is one of the most unique golf holes in the world and generally provides for some fantastic entertainment.
Betting Tips
Justin Thomas ($14/ Top 10 $2.50)
Backed Thomas last week and while it wasn't his strongest outing, he did enough to warrant me coming back for some more this week on a course that suits him much more. T26, T2 and T48 in three starts this year but at TPC Scottsdale, he has not finished lower than 17th in his last seven starts, including four finishes in the Top 10.
Nick Taylor ($61/Top 30 $2.20)
The reigning Phoenix Open Champ represents some value this week after having started the season in strong form. To go with his win at the Sony Open a few weeks ago, Taylor has a T48, T12 and T33 in the bank this year. Finished 2nd at Scottsdale in 2023 before winning with a score of 21under par last season. 8/8 rounds under par for a total of -38 over the last two trips to Phoenix.
