It was another cracking weekend of Australian hoops in Round 4 of the NBL, with some eye-catching performances taking place in multiple games. We ended up hitting on 3/6 of our tips to record our first negative round of the season (-0.54U), although we still have a healthy 21-12 record for +5.43U this season.
We now turn our attention to Round 5 of NBL25 will see six games play out across four days (Thursday-Sunday), with the headliners being the JackJumpers vs Kings on Friday night, and United vs Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. New Zealand Breakers vs Perth Wildcats
Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, Spark Arena
The New Zealand Breakers returned from their two-week NBL hiatus on Thursday night with an 11-point loss away against the Bullets. The Breakers struggled mightily on offence and couldn’t find any viable ways to score outside of star guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright. They’re now 2-1 on the season.
Elsewhere, the Perth Wildcats were three-point winners in their last start against the Snakes, which was an important one as it broke their three-game skid. Bryce Cotton was at his unstoppable best with 35 points and Doolittle did the opposite as his name suggests while adding 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Wildcats are now 2-3 on the season.
Do the Breakers have anything left in the tank? That’s the question you should be asking yourself before investing in this game. For me, they looked tired on Thursday night and with even more travel and a quick turnaround after that, it’s tough to see how they’ll have much juice here. With that in mind, I like the play of backing the Wildcats to cover the small spread in this one.

Adelaide 36ers vs Tasmania JackJumpers
Sunday 4:30pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The Adelaide 36ers have had a full week to recover and learn from last Sunday’s big defeat against United. It came at the end of a busy schedule which saw them play four games in 11 days, and the fatigue was very obvious to the eye. However, they should now be nice and fresh and will also regain Jarell Martin from injury.
The Tasmania JackJumpers led by 12 points at half time against the Kings on Friday but completely fell away in the second half to eventually lose by nine points. The JackJumpers have now lost two in a row for the first time his season and are 2-4 overall. Milton Doyle has been poor in their last two outings and will need to have a massive bounce back on Sunday for the JackJumpers to be any chance of an upset.
The 36ers are the better team this season and will be back to full health here. They’ll also have home court and rest advantage over the JackJumpers who played two days ago. Regardless, it’s the unders in the total points market which I fancy here, which is almost always the case with games involving the JackJumpers. They have the lowest offensive rating in the competition and it’s not even close. I can’t see the total going over 173.5 in this one.
