Mornington will host its annual cup meeting on Saturday with racegoers around the peninsula getting their chance to see both city and local horses in action. The Mornington Guineas is also a good race on the program on a day in which gallopers will likely face a Soft surface. Race 1 starts at 11:50am (AEST) while the Cup will take place in race eight at 4pm.

Mornington Racing Tips: Saturday, April 20th 2024
Race 2: Evergreen Turf Handicap - 12:20pm (AEST)
(4) Mawkeb is ready to salute after placing her last couple in town and from barrier 7 should be able to settle in her ideal position of midfield. Stackhouse has won twice on her before and the distance is ideal. She is in the right class again and with the track being a little Soft, this is to her liking. She won two in a row in the Winter of 2023 with a total margin of 6.5L and if share can get her confidence up, she should go close.
(6) Dane on Tour has finished unplaced in her latest few races but ran well in the summer, especially when she led all of the way at Caulfield on December 14. She may try the same tactics here.
(5) Cabaca has tried her luck in Group and Listed company in the past but has found that level a bit tough. She is down in class for this and is fit.
(4) Mawkeb

Race 8: Sportsbet Mornington Cup - 4pm (AEST)
(2) Future History was freshened and then only beaten 1.4L in the Easter Cup at Caulfield which was a similar class race to this. At the Each-Way odds, a bet looks appealing as three of his wins have been on a Soft track. With more fitness on his side now, the first try at the 2000m looks fine even with the 60kg that he has to cart around. Maher would have prepped him for this and Ethan Brown will know a bit more about him now after riding him last time. He is versatile and can race on pace or from behind so track bias should be no issue.
(5) Deny Knowledge is another good chance at Each-Way odds. McDougall has his second ride on top which should help and the Mick Kent mare will appreciate it if there is no rain on the day. She might try and lead again like she did in the Easter Cup (3rd).
(4) First Immortal is the likely fav but will need luck to get across from barrier 13 on a tight track. He is a winner too, having won 8 from 17 starts, including three on a Soft track. He was unplaced in his only try over the 2000m but he is the class horse of the race.
(2) Future History E/W

Race 9: Sportsbet Hareeba Stakes - 4:45pm (AEST)
(11) Grand Impact drops a big 7kgs for this and should be fitter after being beaten when on pace last start (5th). He can handle tracks with the give out of the ground and he has raced in stronger races than this. He hasn't won in a long time but I reckon he can get over from barrier 8 and lead all of the way. He did race in the 2022 version of the Coolmore so connections believe he has got what it takes.
(9) La Danseuese Rouge has drawn wide in 15 but resumes after four jumpouts to her belt so I think she will run a forward run fresh. She has won 2 from 3 on the Soft so it suits.
(10) Maharba usually settles handy but from barrier 13 will need luck to win. He raced well in the Bel Esprit at Caulfield for 2nd and he was only 2L off them in the Group 3 Zedative Stakes before that.
(11) Grand Impact E/W
$5.00/$2.00 (1 Unit)
