2024 AFL Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Melbourne vs Collingwood
Friday 7:40pm AEST, August 23rd, MCG
Coach of Melbourne, Scott Goodwin told the media his side will play their heart out in the last couple of rounds of the season and his troops did just that last outing when they destroyed the Suns by 38 points (89-51). The Suns had lost only one game at PFS this season prior, but the hungry Dees were far too good.
Their most recent victory came off the back of a strong showing against one of the form teams in the competition in the Power whom they pushed all the way en route to a two-point loss. Regardless, it’s been a disappointing campaign for a club that many touted as contenders.
In lineup news, the Dees have opted to make just the one change at selection, with Bailey Laurie coming in for Tom Sparrow.
Elsewhere, Collingwood secured what seemed to be an incredibly important win against the Lions last start when they came back from four goals down in the final quarter to win by a single point (79-89). However, results following their match put the final nail in their coffin in terms of finals.
It’s been a disappointing attempt at a premiership defence for the Pies despite their best efforts of late. They’ve won three of their past four games but unfortunately it’s been too little too late.
The Pies have made four changes at selection for their final game of the season, with Dan McStay (out) being the only notable change.
Match Prediction: It’s a very tough game to tip on all fronts. It’s likely going to be decided by who’s the more motivated/hungrier team on the night, however, I think you can expect a close contest like the odds suggest. As we all know, the Pies live and die on momentum swings and I expect there to be plenty of those in this meeting. This leads me to believe that taking the Any Other Result in the Wire to Wire market is a sound selection.

Nick Daicos 30+ Disposals – Daicos has the carrot of a potential Brownlow dangling here so you know he’s going to come motivated to have a big game.
Scott Pendlebury 20+ Disposals – Another campaign comes to an end and Pendles is still playing great footy. I like him to rack them up and finish the year strong.
Trent Rivers 25+ Disposals – He’s been fantastic since his move to the midfield and is coming off 30 touches last weekend. He remains great value for 25.
