A-League Round 22 Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide United vs Brisbane Roar
Coopers Stadium, Saturday 8th March, 5:00pm AEDT
Adelaide United will look to get their season back on track when they host Brisbane Roar in the first A-League fixture of Round 22 on Saturday. Despite winning just one of their last six matches, Adelaide showed promise in a thrilling 4-4 draw against ladder leaders Auckland last time out. Goals had been hard to come by in recent weeks, so their attacking output was a welcome sign. Sitting third on the table, they are level on points with second-placed Melbourne City but behind on goal difference, making a win here crucial to their push for a top-two finish.
Brisbane, on the other hand, remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder, having secured just one victory from 17 matches this season. They are on course for one of the lowest points totals in A-League history, but they have shown slight improvement recently, picking up points in three of their last five games. A 1-1 draw against Melbourne Victory last week highlighted their ability to compete, though results remain hard to come by.
With Adelaide at home and motivated to strengthen their position in the top three, they should prove too strong for Brisbane. Expect a comfortable win for the hosts where they find the back of the net on multiple occasions.

Melbourne Victory vs Central Coast Mariners
AAMI Park, Saturday 8th March, 7:35pm AEDT
Melbourne Victory will aim to strengthen their finals push when they host Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night. Victory salvaged a point in dramatic fashion last weekend, scoring a late equaliser against bottom-placed Brisbane in what was otherwise a disappointing display. Despite that setback, their overall form remains strong, with just one loss in their last six matches. Currently sitting sixth on the table, they are only two points behind second place in an incredibly tight competition, making this a vital fixture in their bid to climb the standings.
The Mariners, meanwhile, find themselves in a difficult position, sitting 10th on the ladder and now eight points adrift of the top six. Their form has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, suffering consecutive defeats while conceding seven goals and scoring just once in their last two outings. Winless in their last six matches, Central Coast will need a significant turnaround if they are to reignite their finals hopes.
With Victory in far better form and playing at home, they should have too much quality for the struggling Mariners. Given Central Coast’s recent defensive woes, expect Victory to take full advantage and claim all three points.

Newcastle Jets vs Auckland FC
McDonald Jones Stadium, Sunday 9th March, 5:00pm AEDT
Newcastle Jets will look to continue their impressive turnaround when they host ladder leaders Auckland FC in the final game of Round 22. After a tough start to the season that saw them lose eight of their first 12 matches, the Jets have found form in recent weeks, winning three in a row and remaining unbeaten in their last five. A more consistent attacking approach has been key, with Newcastle scoring at least twice in each of their last five outings. This resurgence has lifted them to ninth on the table, still eight points outside the top six but with two games in hand to close the gap.
Auckland, meanwhile, played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Adelaide in their most recent fixture, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches. With five wins in that stretch, they continue to set the standard in their inaugural A-League season, sitting comfortably atop the ladder with an eight-point lead. Having lost just twice in 18 matches, Auckland have shown both attacking firepower and resilience, making them a formidable opponent.
While Newcastle’s recent form is promising, Auckland have been the best team in the competition all season. The visitors deserve favouritism and I expect them to be coming away with all three points once again.
