A-League Round 21 Preview & Betting Tips

Auckland FC vs Adelaide United

Go Media Stadium, Saturday 1st March, 3:00pm AEDT

Auckland FC are running the show in their debut A-League season, sitting eight points clear on top of the ladder. They made a huge statement last weekend, smashing Wellington 6-1 in the New Zealand Derby. That win extended their streak to four in a row, and they haven’t lost in their last six. Their attack has been on fire, and with home ground advantage, they’ll be confident of keeping the momentum going.

Adelaide United, meanwhile, are heading in the opposite direction. They’ve lost two straight and three of their last four, and with how close the table is this season, another slip-up could see them drop out of the top six. Their defence has looked shaky, and they’ll need a big response to turn things around. When these two sides met earlier in the season, Adelaide managed a 2-2 draw at home, but this time they’re up against a red-hot Auckland side in front of their home fans.

Right now, Auckland look unstoppable, while Adelaide are struggling for form. Unless the visitors can find something special, Auckland should be too strong again. Another win here would only further cement their dominance at the top.

Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory

Suncorp Stadium, Saturday 1st March, 5:00pm AEDT

Brisbane Roar’s season has been nothing short of a disaster, managing just one win from 16 games while suffering 12 losses. Their struggles continued last weekend with a 3-1 defeat to the Jets, and they remain the only team yet to keep a clean sheet this season. On top of that, their attack has been just as poor, making it no surprise they sit at the bottom of the ladder. Their only win came four games ago against Sydney, but since then, it’s been more of the same.

Melbourne Victory, on the other hand, are building some good momentum. They played out a 2-2 draw in the Melbourne Derby last weekend, and their recent form of three wins, one draw, and one loss from their last five games has kept them firmly in the top four. They currently sit fourth, but with how tight the table is, they’re only two points off second. Despite conceding twice last week, their defence has been solid overall, with three clean sheets in their last five matches.

Victory beat Roar 2-0 earlier this season and should be too strong again. With Brisbane’s struggles at both ends of the pitch, another comfortable win for Victory is likely.

Macarthur FC vs Sydney FC

Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Saturday 1st March, 7:35pm AEDT

Macarthur FC and Sydney FC face off in a crucial clash with both teams fighting for a top-six finish. Macarthur sit 8th on the ladder with 25 points, just one behind 7th-placed Sydney, making this a massive game in the finals race. Neither side has been able to find much consistency, but a win here could be a turning point heading into the final stretch of the season.

Macarthur have only won once in their last five matches, but they’ve been competitive in every game. Their biggest issue has been turning close contests into victories, and with home ground advantage, they’ll see this as a real opportunity to claim an important three points. Sydney FC, meanwhile, have also won just one of their last five and were left frustrated last weekend after failing to beat a struggling Perth Glory side. They’ve lacked a spark in recent weeks and will need a big lift to get their season back on track.

Macarthur won the only meeting between these sides this season, beating Sydney 2-1 away from home in November. Given their similar form and the home advantage, they are more than capable of causing an upset and taking another vital win in this rivalry.
