2024 AFL Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Hawthorn vs North Melbourne
Saturday 12:30pm AEST, August 24th, UTAS Stadium
Hawthorn enter their most important match of the season in sizzling form having won 13 of their past 17 games after starting the season 0-5. The equation is now simply for the Hawks; win on Saturday and lock in a spot in the finals.
Last weekend the Hawks destroyed the 18th placed Tigers by 63 points (131-68) at the ‘G. That win was setup by a blistering opening term where they piled on 57 points to the Tigers 7. However, it ended up being a costly quarter for the Hawks as star player Will Day went down with a suspected broken collarbone. Fortunately, scans showed no break, although his timeline for a return remains unknown. Finn Maginness comes into the side this week as his replacement.
Elsewhere, North Melbourne will be looking forward to the end of what has been another bitterly disappointing campaign. Although they showed signs of improvement at stages, the Kangaroos have still only managed to win on three occasions.
The Roos were absolutely dismantled by a far superior Dogs outfit last weekend to the tune of 96 points (42-138). The undermanned and undersized Roos defence simply couldn’t hand the Dogs key talls, with Sam Darcy leading the way with seven goals.
Match Prediction: It’s of no surprise to see the Hawks priced as extremely short favourites in this matchup with the Roos. They destroyed them in their meeting earlier in the season and an even bigger margin is to be expected this time around.
The Hawks piled on 113 points against the Roos in April and they were actually winless at the time. They’ve also put up four totals of 112+ in their past five, showcasing just how much firepower they possess. And although the conditions in Tassie aren’t always perfect for footy, I expect them to put up another huge total on Saturday in what’s a massive game for the club.

Moore, Dear, and Ginnivan 2+ Goals Each: As mentioned above, I expect the Hawks to pile on the score here and their forwards should clean up. The three guys I’ve selected are all great value and should get plenty of looks at the big sticks.
