2024 AFL Round 15 Preview & Betting Tips
GWS vs Sydney
Saturday 4:35pm AEST, June 22nd, ENGIE Stadium
GWS started the season on fire like most pundits thought they would, winning each of their first five games. However, they hit a bit of a road block after that and suffered losses in five of their next seven games before defeating the Power by 22 points last weekend (73-51).
Their recent triumph certainly wasn’t a pretty game to watch, although their coaching staff can take a lot of positives out of it – particularly defensively where they restricted a high-power offence to only three goals after quarter time.
There were some casualties on the back of their Round 14 clash, with both Sam Taylor and Nick Haynes going down with injury. Their key defender stocks have certainly taken a hit, but they will gain some dash in their backline with Lachie Ash returning from injury.
Elsewhere, Sydney have hardly put a foot wrong this campaign and enter Round 16 well clear on the top of the ladder. They won their first three games of the season before suffering a shock loss against the Tigers in Round 3, but have since gone on a massive nine-game win streak.
The Swans most recent victory came against the Crows on enemy soil where they actually trailed for the majority of the game. However, the Swans clicked into gear midway through the third term and were able to steamroll the Crows to run away 42-point winners (109-67).
A big part of the Swans success this season has been due to their blessed run with injury. They’ve only featured 27 players in total this season and 16 have played every game. They’ve only made the one change this weekend, with Matt Roberts making way for a debutant in the form of Caiden Cleary.
Match Prediction: This is arguably the most interesting and toughest game to make a read on this weekend. On one hand, the Swans are flying with nine straight wins but have shown some vulnerabilities in recent weeks which makes me believe they’re ripe for the picking. However, on the other hand, the Giants have been struggling with form over the last month or so and still haven’t clicked into gear.
With all of that said, the line is currently set at 17.5 and that seems far too generous for mine. The Giants are better than that and if they can get the jump on the Swans like the Crows did last weekend, then they should easily cover.

Joel Amartey 2+ Goals – Coming off a career-best nine goals last week, he’ll be full of confidence and will be a focal point going forward. He goes in.
Tom Papley 2+ Goals – Just loves the big games and will have his moments to hit the scoreboard in this one.
Callum Brown 1+ Goal – Always playing deep forward and it’d be a surprise if he doesn’t feature in the goals here.
