2024 AFL Round 14 Preview & Betting Tips
GWS vs Port Adelaide
Sunday 4:00pm AEST, June 16th, ENGIE Stadium
GWS entered the season as one of the key players in the premiership market and franked their short odds with great form in the opening five rounds where they won all games. However, they’ve struggled with injuries and form since then and have only managed to salute in two of their last seven outings.
In their first hitout post-bye in Round 13 the Giants were engaged in an arm-wrestle with the in-form Hawks in Tassie. Unfortunately, they finished on the wrong end of an 85-79 scoreline and will now enter Sunday’s clash outside the top eight for the first time this season.
In positive lineup news for the Giants, Jack Buckley and Josh Kelly return after missing the last few games through injury. James Peatling and Jacob Wehr will make way.
Port Adelaide also started their campaign in strong fashion with four wins from their first five games. Their only loss during that span came against the Demons in Round 3, but they also recorded some handy wins including a 69 point thrashing of the top four Bombers the week after.
Still, there are question marks surrounding the ability of the Ken Hinkley coached Power to stand up in big games against tough opposition, and those question marks reared their head once more when they were destroyed by the classy Blues in their last encounter which was pre-bye (Round 12).
As a result of their recent defeat, the proverbial axe was swung, with key forwards Charlie Dixon and Jeremy Finlayson among the three omissions. Ollie Lord will get his chance in the forward line, while captain Connor Rozee also returns after an unlucky run with injury.
Match Prediction: Neither of these clubs would be pleased with their recent form and that sets up an interesting clash at ENGIE Stadium. They met twice last season and each team tasted success once.
However, it’s the total points market which tickles my fancy here as the current line of 170.5 just seems far too high considering recent trends. That number hasn’t been surpassed in each of the last five Giants games, as well as four of the past six from a Power perspective. These numbers make me confident in backing the unders here.

Zak Butters 25+ Disposals – He’s copped a few tags in recent weeks but you can expect a genuine H2H midfield battle here. Love Zak’s value in the disposal markets in this one.
Harry Himmelberg 20+ Disposals – Port are a top 2 team at getting forward half entries and that should lead to some opportunities for the Giants designated kickers to get their hands on it.
Toby Greene 2+ Goals – The Power have some strong key defenders but I’m not quite sold on their smalls. Toby Greene is a tough matchup for the best of defenders and I can see him having an impact.
