They say there's no such thing as free money, but this might be as close as we get!
Ladbrokes are offering a huge $3.00 for Winx to win four or more races this Spring carnival as the champion mare attempts to claim a record-breaking fourth Cox Plate.
The world’s highest-rated horse has won her past 25 starts and will be out to break Black Caviar’s winning streak when she returns next month. If (when) she does, it will be her 19th Group 1 victory.
Trainer Chris Waller confirmed his superstar mare would resume in the race named after her, the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on August 18.
Her program after that is still undecided, but if Waller decides to follow the same path as last year, it’s likely that Winx will line up in the Chelmsford Stakes (September 1), the George Main Stakes (September 15), the Turnbull Stakes (October 6) and finally, the Cox Plate (October 27).
Winx was given a quiet trial over 900m at Rosehill on Monday, July 23, and Waller said she had come back as good as ever.
"It was good to see her get on her toes this morning [before the trial] and know she was alive, she knows when to switch on in terms of getting on her toes," he said.
"Even when Hughie gave her a little squeeze at the hundred, she just started to charge through the line and pulling up she was ready to go another lap.
"All in all I'm pretty happy after the trial... she went well, I went well and Hughie went well."
Winx will be given one more trial and an exhibition gallop to tune her up for the Winx Stakes, which she has won the past two years.
Since her eight-length romp to take out her second Cox Plate in 2016, where she started $1.80, Winx has had twelve starts, with her longest starting price being $1.26.
With Winx likely to have four or five starts during the Spring carnival, the $3.00 on offer from Ladbrokes looks like an early Christmas present!
