Match Preview
The Dockers and Swans will face off with plenty on the line given it’s only a Round 2 clash, as both teams are looking for their first win of the season.
Fremantle travelled to Geelong in their opening game of the season, full of hope after many pundits had predicted them to be one of the bolters in the 2025 season. They were less than impressive in the opener, going down by 78 points to the Cats, kicking just 10 goals.
There were some positive signs for the Dockers, most notably debutant Murphy Reid, who booted four goals in as many minutes in the 3rd quarter to keep his team in the game.
The Swans have started the season 0-2 after losing to Hawks in the opening game of the season before going down to the Lions last week. I don’t think too many alarm bells will be ringing in Sydney, as they have faced what should be two of the top teams in the league.
The Dockers will unveil their key off-season recruit in Shai Bolton on Sunday evening, with the former Richmond star set to make his club debut after missing Round 1 with a calf injury. For the Swans, Angus Sheldrick, Peter Ladhams and Hayden McLean will all come into the side this week.
Fremantle’s strength lies in their ability to control possession and lock down opposition scoring opportunities. Their ability to slow down Sydney’s run-and-gun playstyle will be crucial. Expect the Dockers to apply strong defensive pressure around stoppages, trying to nullify the Swans’ ability to transition quickly from defense to attack.
I think the home field advantage is big here as well, and I expect Fremantle to bounce back from their disappointing effort in Geelong to hand Sydney their third straight loss here, covering the spread in the process.
Fremantle -7.5

Nick Blakey 20+ Disposals - The new kickout king in the AFL, taking over from his teammate Jake Lloyd. Has taken 17 of a possible 25 Sydney kick ins so far and has played on from 16/17. Averaging 25.0 disposals per game through the opening two and had 32 and 26 in two games against the Dockers last season.
Chad Warner 20+ Disposals - Has had 21 and 20 through the opening two games this season and has been largely quiet in both. 23 twice in two games against the Dockers last year. Should be on for 20+ again with ease given Errol Gulden still on the sidelines.
Caleb Serong 25+ Disposals - Still managed to rack up 27 touches in the 78 point loss to the Cats last week as one of the Dockers best players. Averaged 28.5 in two games against the Swans last season.
SGM Odds: $2.75 at BoomBet
