To cap off a big weekend of horse racing we have Flemington hosting an eight-race card on Sunday.
A Soft 6 track is predicted but with a bit of rain around the next few days we will have to monitor conditions if that supports our selections.
Race one commences at 1:30pm, while the last race takes place at 5:30pm.
Brendan Bunworth takes you through his best bets for the day!
Flemington Racing Tips: Sunday September 18th
Race 4
(13) Thought Provoking ran quite well in a recent Cranbourne jumpout where he was second to the quality stayer Persan. Before that it was a nice effort to win at Sale after racing on speed for the race before getting there by a nose. In fact, his last three races have been very close finishes and I expect the same here with him sitting around second or third in the run from barrier two.
(9) Carlisle won't want the track any softer and if we don't get much rain is a value runner.
(6) Cardinal Gem has a tricky barrier to contend with in 16 but has placed in the top four in his last four races. He likes this distance and did run well stepping up to 1600m when second at Flemington on July 2.
(5) Attractable is another consistent horse but doesn't want any rain around.
(13) Thought Provoking Win
$8.00 (1 Unit)
Race 6
(1) Major Beel has good form on soft ground and the top weight has never been further back than third in his short career. His last two placings have been in close finishes and i think he can take this out for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott combination. She was backed to win at Moonee Valley last time where she ran home well over the concluding stages. Damien Oliver jumps off and Tim Clark gets the ride.
(6) Muramasa is one from one on Soft ground and is a last start Sale winner after finding the line hard. He is fit after four recent jumputs.
(7) Fairy Spirit won very well (3.75L) at Pakenham last time and it now gets the chance to prove itself again on the grass.
(9) Maxxi Bon is huge odds and is overs
(1) Major Beel Win
$3.20 (3 Units)
Race 7
(2) Gunstock for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr has a tricky barrier in 12 but does have the service of the quality Jamie Kah. He is resuming off an 11-month spell but has had two jumpouts in readiness for this. He is a Group 3 Norman Robinson winner and if he is 80 to 90 percent fit, he will be right in this. Carrying 61kg is a slight concern but he did show a lot last campaign.
(7) Polanco has had an up and down campaign and does have an awkward draw in 13 but a top three finish wont shock at odds.
(8) So Risque is quality on any surface and is a winner of four from 10. Oliver hops on which is a tick for the Hayes team.
(10) Unanimous has been plain in three runs back from a spell but is likely 100 percent fit now.
(2) Gunstock Win
$5 (1 Unit)
Race 8
(12) Niccolite gets Logan McNeil to ride again after he won on the mare two starts back at Ladbrokes Park (Lakeside). She does settle back in her races, but I think the pace will be on which will help her strom to the line over the concluding stages. She's had a three week break since her unplaced Pakenham run but this race is more suitable.
(15) La Caresse is another who is pretty strong to the line and will make her run with Niccolite.
(7) Joyful Fortune who will be around the even money quote, has had two very good trials at Sydney and is all the talk for this race but i'm happy to risk the former Sha Tin galloper first up from a 14-month break.
(1) Decent Raine may have too much weight to carry first up but her chances increase if it rains throughout the program.
(12) Niccolite EW
$12.00/$3.40 (1 Unit)
