It's an exciting day of racing ahead and Melbourne is turning it on with the weather with a perfect 25 degrees forecast.
Brendan Bunworth has previewed every race on the Flemington card and provides his racing tips for us below. Good luck if you're following!
Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday September 16th
Race 1: Robert Cram Sprint - 12:10pm (AEST)
(8) Fasuto is a lightly raced gelding who returns to Flemington and he has placed over this track and distance previously. He has trialled well enough over the last 2 weeks behind some smart ones and he has won 3 from 7 races over the last 12 months. He will likely get back and from barrier 1 will obviously have to go to the rails.
(10) Little Miss Kubi was 5th in a harder race a fortnight ago and she has placed at Flemington before.
(12) Oracle Son comes over from Adelaide and this is obviously harder. He has won 2 from 6 attempts on Good tracks though.
(13) Bews got done by a nose behind Watadeel last time and will be fitter here. May start fav.
(8) Fasuto E/W
$12.00/$3.50 (0.5u E/W)
Race 2: The Melbourne Cup Carnival on Sale Quality - 12:40pm (AEST)
(10) United Nations was good last time at The Valley over 2500m (2nd) and you would think he would like Flemington even better. He’s had 3 runs in this prep and he is ready to show best here with 100 percent fitness. He likes Dry tracks and he can run the distance.
(8) Shaiyhar has won 4 from 6 races this year and this distance looks ideal. Seems to like the Soft tracks and will wait and see if he can do it on the Dry.
(5) Alhambra Lad has placed at Flemington previously and he can handle all conditions.
(3) Point Nepean was looking good 12 months ago but has failed since. At big odds here he may be worth a place bet.
(10) United Nations
$5.50 (2 units)
Race 3: The Sofitel - 1:15pm (AEST)
(2) Antino comes over Brisbane with some excellent form. He has won 8 from 9 races and the 1400m here looks ideal. He was 3rd in a trial behind Rothfire and Zoustar 2 weeks ago and both of those horses would win this race. James Orman comes over and he has won on Antino on 8 occasions.
(3) Detonator Jack is classy and has Jamie Kah on for the first time which should assist. He has won 2nd up before and wasn’t too far away last time at Caulfield when 2nd.
(5) Nicolini Vito has won twice over this track&distance and he does like Dry ground. A better barrier and he probably goes on top. Place.
(6) Umgawa was beaten a nose at Caulfield last time and is more than capable at this track.
(2) Antino
$2.60 (3 units)
Race 4: Winning Edge Presentations Poseidon Stakes - 1:50pm (AEST)
(3) King’s Gambit is a good horse and he comes into this after placing 3 races in a row. Blake Shinn has won on him before and is on again and the colt has placed in both starts over this distance. First up form is good.
(1) Barber is pretty big odds because he trilled poorly. He was scratched last time and he could surprise here.
(6) I am Unstoppable has good second up form and his 3rd at Caulfield behind Cylinder was a very good run.
(7) Lakota Fire is very fit and is 1 from 1 for Damien Lane. Jumped out 2nd a fortnight ago at this track which may help.
(3) King’s Gambit
$2.60 (3 units)
Race 5: Exford Plate - 2:30pm (AEST)
(15) Legacies ran a very good 2nd at Caulfield last start and can improve again here. She has won on Good ground has placed in her 2 runs and her 2nd up form is Good. Kah is on which is positive and 1400m should suit. Short odds but should be okay.
(11) King of Fighters might try and lead this field and could run a good race at odds.
(8) Griff comes over from Sydney and despite having not placed his last couple, he wasn’t beaten too far in both runs.
(3) Introducing will settle on speed and will likely try to position up 3rd on the inside during the first half of the race.
(15) Legacies
$2.15 (4 units)
Race 6: Cap D’Antibes Stakes - 3:05pm (AEST)
(19) Fragile Love is the pick here in what is a very hard race. 20 horses will run over 1100m and it's probably a race where you just bet small or not at all. The Ellerton trained filly is running well and the stable has a good strike rate up the straight.
(15) Estriella has run two 2nds in a row totalling a quarter of length and has to be a big chance.
(12) Tiz Enough has drawn 22 and may try to lead all of the way on the outside fence.
(10) Cigar Flick was only a 1.85L 5th in a Group 2 at Rosehill last start. Rough hope.
(19) Fragile Love E/W
$21/$6.00 (0.5u E/W)
Race 7: PFD Food Service Makybe Diva Stakes (GROUP 1) - 3:40pm (AEST)
(1) Mr Brightside will be a good bet if we can get even money considering he is racing over a distance that he has won 9 from 13 over. We got off him last time, but we are back with him here with Craig Williams in the saddle from barrier 2. The only small query is Flemington. He has only won 1 race here from 6 attempts and thats why we probably do want $2.00 to play.
(7) Princess Grace for Team Waller can run a race too. She is very consistent and has never missed a top 3 finish over the mile. Blake Shinn was 2nd on her last time and gets the ride again.
(6) Osipenko would have a better chance if the track wasn’t Dry. He can run on well though and Flemington might suit his chances if they go hard in front.
(2) Alligator Blood loves it here and will sit on speed. The worry is if another horse challenges him for the lead.
(1) Mr Brightside
$1.95 (4 units)
Race 8: Furphy Let’s Elope Stakes (Group 2) - 4:20pm (AEST)
(6) Wrote to Arataki gets the nod here at nice odds after running home very nicely in the Cockram Stakes at Caulfield last start (3rd). He has proven himself over the 1400m and should get a nice run from barrier 3. He will get back and will need luck but he did win a Penshurst jumpout untouched a few weeks ago.
(5) Foxy Frida likes Flemington and has 4 from 9 over the 1400m. She like Dry ground but did run poorly in a trial last week.
(4) Caste has won 4 from 6 starts so far and sees Flemington for the first time. He is 2 from 2 when first up from a spell.
(1) Amelia’s Jewell has drawn wide in 15 but is the best horse in the race. Current odds of $1.75 is too short to play. Even money maybe?
(6) Wrote to Arataki E/W
$11.00/$2.80 (0.5u E/W)
Race 9: Bobbie Lewis Quality (Group 2) - 4:55pm (AEST)
(5) Star Patrol jumped out well at Cranbourne recently and he should run top 3 in this race. He loves it here at Flemington and he has won 4 from 11 when the track is Good. Resuming from a spell should be no problem because he goes well fresh. He has won all 3 trials leading into this race.
(1) King of Sparta has raced in harder races than this and does like this distance. Is carrying 59kg though.
(8) Benedetta is in form and a quality mare. Ticks a lot of boxes but this is one of her toughest tests yet.
(10) Najem Suhail loves the straight, loves the dry and should settle up there. He also faces his toughest assignment yet.
(5) Star Patrol E/W
$5.00/$1.85 (1u E/W)
Race 10: Australian Childhood Foundation Stake - 5:20pm (AEST)
(16) Carini was slow out on resumption but ran on very well for 3rd at Caulfield. He is 1 from 1 second up and he will be there to strike if the pace is on because he will run on well with the lightweight. Michael Dee takes the ride for the first time.
(14) Let’srollthedice ran well last start and gets Kah on again. He likes this track but sees this distance for the first time.
(12) Aberfeldie Boy goes well fresh and won a Cranbourne trial last week. Has been nominated for the Melbourne Cup.
(10) Devoted was backed to win last time and saluted for punters. This is harder but the stable thinks he will go even better with the blinkers on.
(16) Carini
$3.60 (3 units)
