Flemington Racing Tips

Its Newmarket Handicap Day at Flemington on Saturday as the whole nation braces itself with quality racing during the day. Due to the forecast of 38 degrees in Victoria on the day, the Flemington meeting has been brought forward to a 10:45am start (AEDT). Imperatriz is a drifting favourite in the Newmarket, but this will be her toughest task yet…

Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, March 9th 2024

Race 1: Cirka Plate - 10:45am (AEDT)

(4) Hedged is resuming off a spell and is one of two in the race for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr. Kah is on this one who won by 4.25L at Hillside last time after settling in a nice position in the run. It does look like he is ready for this after winning a Cranbourne jumpout two weeks ago. He has won on a Dry track before and he has already won over this distance so it's a good starting point this campaign before he stretches out over longer distances in the Autumn.

(6) Lost was well backed last start and saluted for punters at Lakeside, defeating Lazy Susan, who came out and won on Wednesday at Hillside. Kah was on that day but she has opted to ride our on topper in this.

(8) Akicita is resuming and is 1 from 1 over this distance. He was backed again before his spell, all too fall just short when beaten a head at Hillside.

(4) Hedged

$2.80 (3 Units)

Race 5: Yulong Newmarket Handicap - 12:45pm (AEDT)

(3) Buenos Noches is the go here (Each-Way) I reckon. He is better over the 1200m I believe and although he gets back in his races he will be making his run alongside one of the other fancies in Imperatriz. He gets weight relief here which is the key and Flemington, a track in which he goes well on. He won a Flemington jumpout on March 1 and he has been set for this one.

(1) Imperatriz is obviously the classiest horse in the race but they will be hunting for her and she does have to carry an extra 1.5kg here in a harder race. She has won 7 from 9 races over this distance and 13 from 14 starts on Dry tracks. She is $2.20 the time of typing but i reckon you will get $2.80 on the day.

(2) Bella Nipotina is so consistent and although I can't see her winning, I can see her running another big race with Willow on board. She is around $3.20 a place and that might suit some punters. She was beaten less than a length behind Imperatriz last start and she drops  kilo here.

(3) Buenos Noches E/W

$5.50/$1.90 (1 Unit)

Race 8: Matron Stakes - 2:30pm (AEDT)

*SCRATCHED* (1) Foxy Frida stormed home last start (4th) and she is back to a track  &distance in which she enjoys. The Dry ground suits and despite having a wide barrier in 10, I can see Willow just drifting back early to settle around 8th on the outside before letting her down late. She is second up and has been in the money 5 from 7 times when second up. Each-Way might be the go.

(3) Unusual Culture will be up on the pace and will be a few lengths in front of Frida upon approaching the home straight. She is down in class and I think she will be in front with 100m to go.

(5) Running By is very fit and has drawn well in 3. She will likely settle in between Frida and Unusual Culture and will be in this for a long way. Was 2nd in the Group3 Mannerism last start and this is a bit easier.

(1) Foxy Frida
