Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday March 25th

March 24th 2023, 1:20pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Flemington Racing Tips

The Group 1 Australia Cup is the highlight of the program at Flemington on Saturday on what is a super day of racing.

The big one will start at 4:20pm, with James Cummings’ Cascadian likely to start favourite in the famous Godolphin Blue colours.

The track is predicted to stay a Good 4 after some rain in the lead up and race one gets us underway at 12:25pm over the 1100m distance.

My best racing tips for the day can be found below!

Flemington Racing Tips – Saturday, March 25th 2023

Race 1

(4) Veranskova has drawn in the middle for Daniel Moor (7) and will get to choose which direction he goes down the long historical straight on the mare. She is good first up and has won 2 up the straight previously. She is one that may appreciate a downgrade in track conditions but that is unlikely.

(2) Scorched Earth has won 3 races for Damien Oliver previously and Ollie has stuck with her. She just jogged around in a recent jumpout but will be ready to fire here.

(6) Duchess of Dorset comes over from Warrnambool for the Simon Wilde team and is fitter now. She will hit the line late.

(7) Fortunate Kiss had no luck in the Spring and also comes over from the Bool for Daniel Bowman.

(4) Veranskova - WIN

$3 (2 Units)

Race 2

(4) Amazonian Lass has a wide draw in 13 and the two-year-old will likely have to come down the outside in this one. She got up by a nose on debut with Brett Prebble on but Jordan Childs takes the ride this time. That win was only 3 weeks ago on a Good surface so the fitness levels are still there.

(2) Hell Queen won on a Good surface at Bendigo on March 9 and will likely settle very close to Amazonian Lass. Placed in the Listed Talindert before that. Will give our top pick a length or two early but is another who is fit.

(5) Coast Princess comes into this fresher than some of her rivals and is another who has already won on a Good track. Will likely settle just behind Amazonian Lass and Hell Queen in the run.

(7) Anna Jaahza may put the pace on early but i worry others are stronger late.

Race 3

(9) Summerbeel is a winner of 4 from 9 starts and 3 of those were on Good tracks. Childs combines with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for the second race in succession and I think they are a chance of a stable running double. The Savabeel/Summer School mare can handle the distance and has won over it before and from barrier 8 should be able to position up nicely in around the one-one position (4th).

(16) Black Penn has only won the 1 race but gets weight relief on these and comes into the race fit after 2 recent 2nds. She was beaten a neck on both occasions and should be in the finish again.

(5) Kettle Hill is another fit horse and he was 2nd behind the in-form Munhamek last start. Barrier 13 is a slight concern but he has plenty of time to get over.

(4) Hassletoff has a wide barrier in 14 but is consistent having been in the money 18 of 31 starts.

(9) Summerbeel - WIN

$4.40 (2 Units)

Race 4

(2) The Bopper has drawn well in barrier 3 and has Ollie on board. The Bopper ran well in the  Group 2 The Challenge last start after drawing  barrier 1 (5th) and this race is easier. Before that it was an excellent Eagle Farm victory after starting favourite. He will likely settle midfield and he has won 5 from 15 on Good tracks.

(1) Kallos won well last start but has gone up a kilogram with Ben Melham now on top. Does like Flemington.

(3) On The Lead has been in the money 13 of 21 starts when on Good ground and he probably would have beaten Kallos if there was an extra 100m last time.

(4) A Very Fine Red goes alright fresh and did trial well a fortnight ago at Randwick.

(2) The Bopper - WIN

$3.50 (2 Units)

Race 5

(6) Young Werther has been racing well without luck but can miss the kick which will see him back in the second half of the field. The 2600m is a bonus and he has placed in half of his career starts at this track. He has only won 1 from 18 however so you will want each-way odds if you do back him.

(5) Soulcombe is fitter now and there should be a bit more pace on in this race. 1 from 1 over the distance and he likes dry tracks.

(8) Youth Spirit looked the winner here fortnight ago and is 100 percent fit now. Ollie on.

(9) So Unusual faces his toughest test but has won four in a row for the Tony & Calvin McEvoy stable.

(6) Young Werther - Each Way

$6.50/$2.15 (1 Unit)

Race 6

(13) Wild Belle was unlucky last start and should improve here. Please note it was said in the steward’s report that she pulled up lame after getting beaten by a length and a half (7th). She will be very big odds here and others are better but you will get around double figures for a top 3 finish which looks enticing. Chris Parnham off, Childs on.

(10) Benedetta is the likely fav and deserves to be on the back of a strong win at this track on March 4. He gets back but will appreciate the track again after winning here last start (3L).

(11) She Dances is another one at big odds for Peter Moody and she will appreciate the track surface. She can miss the kick which is the worry.

(2) Recommendation hit the lead with 400m to go and never looked back at Ladbrokes Park Lakeside last start and will be up on the pace again.

(16) Greece is lightly raced and is better on dry ground which she should get here.

(13) Wild Belle - Place

$8.50 (1 Unit)

Race 7

(7) Numerian for Annabel Neasham is more than capable at this distance despite having only winning 1 from 10 starts. He has placed on 6 other occasions and he should get a nice sit in about the 3rd or 4th position early. He was 19th in the Melbourne Cup but that was on a Soft track. He is better on a Good surface.

(4) Nonconformist likes Dry ground and did win at this track first up. He was close enough in the Caulfield Cup which was his 2nd last run and he will have plenty of admirers on the day.

(9) Right You Are can't be denied after winning 5 on end and has to be put in. It's his toughest test yet.

(14) Steinem will appreciate the conditions and has placed over this distance before. He was backed to win last start when getting up for punters at Ladbrokes Park Lakeside.

(7) Numerian - WIN

$18 (1 Unit)

Race 8

(14) Daytona Bay has drawn pretty well in 4 and he has had a few weeks off preparing for this after running 5th at this track in The Elms. He has won 2 from 4 over the distance and one of those wins was on Good surface. Before that run it was a close up 5th but he is a lot fitter now. Jamie Kah is off due to injury and Linda Meech is on.

(13) Illation has drawn poorly in 15 but is too good to leave out of the placings. He has been good in recent jumpouts but will need cover from the wide draw.

(10) RIddle Me That will get back in the run but will be making up late ground at odds.

(4) Cardinal Gem didn't get much room last start and loves this distance.

(14) Daytona Bay - WIN

$4.40 (1 Unit)

Race 9

(8) Mars Mission has drawn okay out there in 14 up the straight. The Hawkes stable has a good strike rate up the Flemington straight and despite being unplaced at his last couple of Sydney runs, he is fully primed now. He is on the quick back up and will go around at nice odds on a surface he enjoys.

(9) Lafargue has won 3 from 9 on Good tracks and has won twice over the distance. Is a query at Flemington however.

(4) Bellinger comes over from SA but this is harder. Hard to fault his winning form though.

(1) Kooled may lead but does have to carry a big weight.

(8) Mars Mission - WIN

$13 (1 Unit)
