Match Preview
The Dragons were outplayed by the Bulldogs last week. While trying hard, a few late tries only served to narrow the margin of victory to their opponents. While somewhat improved with a new roster, the same only problems existed with a 68% completion rate with just a 45% share of possession. They struggled to build momentum and pressure at key stages.
The Rabbitohs were also entering a new journey with Bennett returning. A horror injury toll highlighted a few shortcomings, but they were still able to prevail against a weather-impacted Dolphins team 16-14. If anything, the dull matches serves as a reminder that they have a long way to go to compete with the contending teams and their 36 missed tackles supports this. Still, it was a character-building victory and one which would’ve eluded them in 2024.
This game is closer than the odds are suggesting. The loss of Wighton will hurt the Rabbitohs, especially on top of the other players absent from their squad. Then again, the Dragons were not without fault in Round 1. Perhaps their dominating victory over their Charity Shield opponents just a few weeks ago is fresh in the minds; it would take a brave punter to invest on them with that as the dominant thought in their mind.
This is where coach Bennett will have his team primed; Flanagan will be similar, aiming for a stronger defensive display. That strongly suggests that this game will be decided by less that 2 converted tries, with either team possible of winning. As it is still early in the season, this is the preferred selection for punters to find a return.

Leg 1: Total Points Under 51.5 – the average total points in their past 5 matches is 45.2 points. As mentioned above, a defensively minded approach is expected from both sides and their performances in Round 1 support this.
Leg 2: Feagai to score – He was good last week for his side and has proven to be strong attacking threat when he has the ball in hand. Watch for the Dragons to again sweep to his side of the field when attacking the line.
Leg 3: Myers to score – has proven himself a capable replacement and will have a point to prove covering for Wighton. Already a try scorer at this level on the wing, he will be closer to the ball and has proven himself capable of taking his chances.
SGM Odds: $13 at BoomBet
