Queensland racing this Saturday is headlined by the nine-race program at Doomben. There are no feature races on the card but still plenty of quality horses going around. The rail is out 1m the entirety, and our selections are for an improving SOFT track with fine conditions forecast between now and race day – watch and monitor for any pattern if possible.

Doomben Racing Tips – Saturday, July 8th 2023
Race 3: Cascade BM72 2000m - 12:53pm (AEST)
(8) COLLEAGUES – promising 4YO gelding on the upward spiral who looks one of the better bets of the day. Two-back he ran second behind AMOKURA (since won the Qld Oaks impressively) over 1800m with big gaps behind before staying in Class 1 grade and destroying them LS over the same track/trip. Looks like he’ll eat 2000m, draws nicely, puts himself on speed, maps well, enjoys the cut out of the ground, and is still on the up. Keen!
(8) COLLEAGUES – Win
$2.60 (3 Units)
Race 5: Sky Racing Hcp 1350m - 2:07pm (AEST)
(3) POCKET FULL – returned in fine order this prep and can go on with it. Won well first-up over 1000m when he burst through a gap and held them all off before going to 1200m LS and winning by 2L after being well-backed. He led them up that day and was clearly headed after turning for home. He dug in and gave a nice kick to run away from them over the line (loved the fight / response to riding). Third-up today so he should still take improvement from the run (compared to SAILOR’S SECRET who’s been up for a while). Jimmy Orman retains the ride, and he maps to sit on-speed from the middle gate. Has upside.
(1) SAILORS SECRET – Won very well last start and gets another chance here. Striking distance and likes the soft track. Will compete.
(3) POCKET FULL – Win
$2.50 (2 Units)
Race 8: Mekkafest 19 Aug BM90 1600m - 4:03 pm (AEST)
(5) MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – 4YO gelding who boasts an impressive record with over 50% win rate. Won very well last start and can go on with it here. Up in class, but gets a nice 3kg engager to even it out. Appears hard to beat.
(4) STARDOME – 7YO who is generally around the mark and is at long odds today. Has a nice record over this distance and can sneak a place.
(5) MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – WIN
$3 (2 Units)
