NRL Super Saturday continues at 5:30pm (AEDT), with the red-hot Tigers heading north to take on the winless Dolphins in Redcliffe. Whilst red hot might be hyperbole, there’s no doubt the Tigers have a sense of belief that hasn’t been there for years. The Dolphins will be desperate for a win, but can they stop the Tigers from winning their second on the trot? Below, we will discuss this matchup and give out our best bets.

Match Preview
The Dolphins finally get to head home, after playing their opening two games in NSW. Last week, they took on the Knights on Thursday night, and there weren’t a lot of positives to take from it. The Dolphins had just as much ball, and ran for basically the same number of metres, but conceded a whopping 8 line-breaks to a Knights team that couldn’t put more than 10 points on the Tigers the previous week.
The Tigers, on the other hand, managed to tear the Eels to shreds in the second half, despite both teams being horrible with the ball in the first half. Much like the Dolphins/Knights game, the Tigers managed to do far more with their chances than the Eels, with possession and yardage basically identical. It was great to see the Tigers finally capitalising on their chances, although that could be more down to the Eels defence, than the Tigers attacking ability.
These teams met twice last year, with the Dolphins claiming the two points on both occasions. In round 5, the Dolphins hosted the Tigers at Suncorp Stadium as 5.5-point home favourites, with a total of 43.5. The Dolphins won comfortably 26-16, with the Tigers making far too many errors to compete. Six weeks later, the teams met again in Magic Round, with the Dolphins closing massive 13.5-point “road” favourites, with the total closing 49.5. Again, the Dolphins were never troubled, wining 24-12.
Looking to this game, and the Dolphins opened short 3.5-point home favourites on the lookahead, however after the Tigers’ impressive win last week, we re-opened at Dolphins -1.5. Slight money has come in on the Dolphins, with the close looking like it may get to 2.5.
As for the total, it opened 46.5, and has bumped up to 47.5. It is looking likely that this will continue to go up, with juiced overs now the consensus. My fair total is 48.5, however given the Tiger’s defence to start the season, I’m a little scared off by the total.
The market has certainly cooled on the Dolphins, whilst getting excited by the Tigers. This can easily be seen judging on two closing markets, as both these teams have played the Knights. Judging by these closing lines, the market had the Dolphins as 4-points better on a neutral than the Tigers, whereas now they appear to be about even. I actually agree, and make the Tigers better on a neutral, with the Dolphins one of the worst teams in the competition. The Tigers to win the match as underdogs for mine.

Leg 1: Tigers (+2.5) – As above, and this way we get the +2.5.
Leg 2: Jeral Skelton (1+ try) – Skelton has looked great so far for the Tigers, with two tries in two games. The Dolphins right edge defence struggled the past two weeks, and I expect the rampaging Tigers winger to take advantage.
Leg 3: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (1+ try) – The Hammer hasn’t managed to cross the stripe this season, however with three tries in two games against the Tigers, expect that to change this week.
SGM Odds: $5.25 at BoomBet
