2024 AFL Round 12 Preview & Betting Tips
Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs
Friday 7:40pm AEST, May 31st, Marvel Stadium
Collingwood enter Round 12 on an impressive eight-game unbeaten streak which includes two draws, one of which was in their most recent clash against the Dockers. The Magpies were arguably robbed by a controversial umpiring decision late and had to settle for a share of the points despite looking well in control of the game for the most part.
The injury curse continues to rear its head for the reigning premiers, and they now have a whopping 15 players on the official AFL injury list. Among those sidelined are key players Jordan De Goey (3-4 weeks), Brody Mihocek (2-4 weeks), Jamie Elliott (TBC), and Scott Pendlebury who was unable to pass his fitness test at training on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the Magpies have been able to get a good look at a lot of their younger players, a couple of whom have impressed. Their coaching staff have opted to make five changes for their Round 12 clash, with Jeremy Howe headlining the ins.
Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs have been a tough side to get a read on in season 2024. They’ve teased their supporters with a couple of fantastic performances but have also thrown in the odd howler.
They too have some injuries to key players to contend with and will be without some big names on Friday night. Tom Liberatore (1-2 weeks) misses again with concussion, and Jason Johannisen (4-5 weeks) is still at least a month away with a hamstring. Ed Richards (TBC) suffered his second concussion of the season last week and won’t play in Round 12.
The Bulldogs have gone with three changes from the side that lost to the Swans last week, all of them being forced. Rory Lobb gets his chance after toiling away in the twos, and will be looking to put in a strong performance after informally requested a trade midweek.
Match Prediction: It’s an interesting clash we have on our hands here between two clubs bitten by the injury bug. This has resulted in a very even betting game, with the Bulldogs currently priced as the slight favourites ($1.80 vs $2.00).
Marvel Stadium is the venue and that certainly helps the Dogs chances. They lost last season’s battle there (77-89) but saluted in their 2022 fixture by 48 points. In my opinion, the Magpies’ outs are more detrimental to their chances and although they’ve coped well of late, they’ll be missing plenty of experienced players on this occasion. For that reason, I’m happy to side with the Dogs here.

Nick Daicos – The superstar is in elite form right now and should get a clean run at it with the Dogs seldom deploying a tagger.
Adam Treloar 30+ Disposals – Having a terrific season and has recorded 30+ disposals in each of his last four games. Should relish playing against his old side as well.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan 2+ Goals – Loves playing at Marvel where he has a far superior goal scoring record compared to anywhere else. He should be hitting the scoreboard again here.
Sam Darcy Anytime Goal Scorer – His importance increases with Naughton out. Should get plenty of looks at goal being higher up in the pecking order.
