2024 AFL Round 14 Preview & Betting Tips
Brisbane vs St Kilda
Friday 7:40pm AEST, June 14th, Gabba
It was a tough first half of the year for last season’s runners-up in Brisbane, although they looked to be a different side in their dominant win against the Bulldogs in their first hitout post-bye. They destroyed the Doggies from wire-to-wire and ended up running away 43-point winners on enemy soil.
2x Brownlow Medal winner Lachie Neale did as he pleased in the win and ended the game with 38 disposals and a couple of goals, although Eric Hipwood was also fantastic with six goals and is likely to be in the running for at least two votes as per our Round 13 Brownlow Votes.
Unsurprisingly, the Lions have opted to make no changes at selection after last week’s win, despite a number of players putting in huge performances at the lower level including Jarryd Lyons who had 30+ touches and three goals.
Also coming off a great and much-needed win are St Kilda. In a dour and low-scoring game against the Suns, the Saints were able to come out on top by three points to keep their faint finals hopes alive.
That’s now two wins on the trot for Ross Lyon’s men who will be eyeing off a hattrick of wins before enjoying their bye next weekend. Importantly, the Saints have now secured back-to-back wins for the first time in 2024.
In unfortunate lineup news, star rebounding defender Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera won’t make the trip to Queensland due to personal reasons. However, first-year player Arie Schoenmaker gets his chance at the top level for the first time after putting together a string of strong performances for Sandringham in the VFL.
Match Prediction: Ross Lyon was smashed by the media both post-game and during the week for his extreme defensive tactics against the Suns, but didn’t seem at all phased considering his side came away with the four points. His Saints have given up 100 points only once this season and considering they’re riding a season-best two-game win streak, it’s hard to see him changing his plan. With that in mind, and also considering the current total of 159.5 hasn’t been toppled in their past six meetings with the Lions, I’m more than happy to back the unders here.

Same Game Multi
We’ve collaborated with exciting new bookmaker, QuestBet, to bring you a great value Same Game Multi for the opening game of each AFL & NRL round. Simply click this link or the image below to jump on our Lions vs Saints SGM.
The first leg in our multi is the Lions to win, which should be fairly straightforward at home. The unders in the total points market has been included for the reasons mentioned above. Finally, half backs have a field day against the Saints each week due to their defensive setup, and that should see the likes of Zorko and Wilmot fill their boots.
