2024 AFL Round 22 Preview & Betting Tips
Brisbane vs GWS
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, August 10th, Gabba
The form of Brisbane post-bye has been nothing short of immense. They limped their way through the first half of the season but have been firing on all cylinders since Round 13, winning all nine of their matches.
The Lions absolutely dominated the helpless Saints on their home ground at Marvel last weekend to the tune of 85 points (124-39). Former #1 pick Cam Rayner was superb again and has put together a mouth-watering month of footy where he’s averaged over 20 touches and two goal a game.
The Lions now occupy second spot on the ladder and are just two points behind the Swans in first. They’ve had a great run with injury of late and have made just the one change this week with Darragh Joyce coming in for Bruce Reville.
Likewise, GWS have been ticking over the win column with regularity of late and enter this weekend on a five-match win streak. Their most recent victim were the Hawks who they stormed over the top of in the fourth quarter to pull off a two-point victory in dramatic fashion (84-82).
Unlike their upcoming opponents, injuries have been a constant issue for the Giants and they’ve picked up a few more of them this week. Unfortunately, big Kieren Briggs will miss against the Lions, with Lachie Keeffe now getting his opportunity in the ruck. In positive news, Josh Kelly returns from a calf injury.
Match Prediction: I expect the turnover game to play a huge role in this contest and it’s the Lions who have the clear edge over both the Giants as well as the rest of the competition. Over the past five games the Lions have an enormous +23.2 differential for scores off turnover, while the Giants are -4.2 over the same span.
Both teams are in winning form, but the Lions form is still far superior and all the key numbers back that up. I expect them to secure yet another win against the Giants who should do enough to not get blown out by 40+.

Brisbane to Win – For the reasons mentioned above.
Josh Dunkley 25+ Disposals – Expecting Neale to get the Bedford tag here, so I’m keen to take some of his teammates in the disposals markets and Dunkley is the most consistent.
Will Ashcroft 20+ Disposals – Is building into the season after missing the first 15 games with a knee injury. I expect him to continue to improve with every game.
