One of the two night fixtures on Saturday in AFL Round 24 will see Brisbane host Essendon at the Gabba. The Lions are very short in the market and deservedly so considering the Bombers collapse in the second half of the season. We assess both teams chances and offer our best bets below!

2024 AFL Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Brisbane vs Essendon
Saturday 7:30pm AEST, August 24th, Gabba
Brisbane let a huge opportunity slip against Collingwood last weekend, and it looks as though they’re going to have to do it the hard way now if they’re to replicate last season and make it to the Grand Final.
The Lions led the Magpies by four goals at different stages but were overrun late in the fourth quarter for the second straight week, which has effectively costed them a spot in the top four and a double chance in the finals.
The Lions have made a pair of changes at team selection this week with Conor McKenna and Noah Answerth the inclusions, while Brandon Starcevich and Shadeau Brain are the unlucky ones.
Essendon’s tumultuous second half of the season continued last weekend when they were soundly beaten by the superior Swans. The Bombers were competitive in the first half but were destroyed after the main break to eventually lose by 39 points (59-98).
The Bombers have now lost eight of their last 11 games won’t be featuring in September once again as a result. They’ll finish the season in 11th spot on the ladder regardless of the result from this fixture which is identical to where they finished up in 2023.
In lineup news, Dyson Heppell comes into the team for his 253rd and final game, while Matt Guelfi has also been called upon. Sam Weideman and Jye Menzie have been omitted.
Match Prediction: In no surprise, the Lions have been priced as the huge favourites to finish the home and away season with a big win against the Bombers. The Bombers have been beaten by 6+ goals on three occasions over the past two months and another such result is expected again here. The Lions won by 42 points last time they hosted the Bombers at the Gabba and I would be surprised if they don’t win comfortably on Saturday night.

Charlie Cameron & Cam Rayner 2+ Goals Each – The Bombers small defenders have been an issue all year and they’ll come up against plenty of quality on Saturday night. I expect Charlie Cameron and Cam Rayner to both feature heavily on the score card in what should be a big win for the Lions
