NBL25 Round 11 Preview & Betting Tips
New Zealand Breakers vs Melbourne United
Thursday 5:30pm AEDT, Wolfbrook Arena
Round 10 was one to forget for the New Zealand Breakers who went 0-2 for the weekend, with a pair of road losses coming against the Hawks and the Wildcats. Their loss against the Hawks was their biggest defeat of the season (38 points), and they also posted their lowest score (71) and conceded their highest score (109). That was of course until Bryce Cotton and the Wildcats put up 123 points against them on Sunday.
Parker Jackson-Cartwright was again the shining light for the Breakers last weekend, particularly against the Wildcats where he had 34 points and 10 assists. Another highlight for the Breakers in Round 10 was Tacko Fall making his NBL debut, although he left the game against the Wildcats with an injury and is likely to be out this weekend.
Melbourne United picked up where they left off after the FIBA break with a three-point win against the Kings last weekend. They led for almost the entirety of the game before the Kings made a push late, although United did enough to come away with their fourth straight win. They now sit three wins clear at the top of the standings with an 11-4 record.
One negative to come out of last weekend’s win is an injury to Chris Goulding who leads the team in points per game. CG43 hurt his calf late in the fourth quarter against the Kings and is set to miss the next couple of weeks. Ian Clark is also working through a hip injury and will be a game time decision on Thursday night.
Game Prediction: These teams met a month ago and it turned out to be one of the most unlikely blow out wins for the Breakers, as they tore United to shreds at John Cain Arena (113-79). However, that win looks to have kicked United back into gear as they’ve gone onto win four in a row since and have posted 100+ points in all four games. Meanwhile, the Breakers have lost three of their past four games while giving up 109+ in their past two.
Regardless of what transpired in their most recent meeting, United remain the far better team and I expect them to be out to exact revenge here. They have by far the deepest roster in the competition and should be too strong against the undermanned and undersized Breakers. Take United to cove the small line in this one.
