BBL14 Scorchers vs Renegades Betting Tips
Optus Stadium, Wednesday 7th December, 7:15pm AEDT
Perth Scorchers
Predicted XI: Finn Allen, Cooper Connolly, Micth Marsh, Aaron Hardie, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Matthew Spoors, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris
The Scorchers produced an un-Scorchers like performance on Friday in their 4 wicket defeat against the Thunder at home. The Thunder required two replacement batters after Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft’s collision, and required 21 from the last 7 balls. However AJ Tye conceded 16 from the final over, including a four off the last ball which saw the Scorchers drop to fourth place on the table with a 3-3 record.
With the bat it was Finn Allen who continued his sharp form after a horror start to the season. After scoring 10 runs from his first four games, Allen has scored back to back half centuries after smashing 68 off 31 against the Thunder. The New Zealander was well supported by BBL14 leading run scorer Cooper Connolly, who hit an unbeaten 43. The Scorchers will get a major boost to their batting stocks with Mitch Marsh coming back to the squad after the Test summer has completed.
The Scorchers had a surprisingly expensive performance from their bowling attack in their last outing with Jason Behrendorff (1/42 off 4), Cooper Connolly (1/21 off 2) and AJ Tye (1/38 off 4) all going at economy rates above 9.5. The Scorchers will get a lift to their bowling attack with Jhye Richardson returning from the Test squad.
Melbourne Renegades
Predicted XI: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Brown, Tim Seifert, Jacob Bethell, Laurie Evans, Jonathan Wells, Will Sutherland, Tom Rogers, Gurinder Sandhu, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson
A three game losing streak and heading west to face a Scorchers side that will be regaining two players from the Australian Test squad, the Renegades season keeps going from bad to worse. The Renegades conceded 44 runs from the final four overs to go down by four wickets in the Melbourne Derby, with the loss putting the Renegades in sixth place with essentially no room for error for the remainder of the season.
The Renegades once again got off to a poor start with the bat, falling to 2/19 after 3.3 overs. There was plenty of hype around the opening partnership of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Brown coming into this season, however the pair have failed to deliver on expectations. The pair have only combined for a 30 run partnership once this season (34) and are averaging 15 runs for the first wicket in BBL14.
The Renegades bowling attack has been solid this season, with Tom Rogers sitting as the leading wicket taker in the competition with 11 wickets at an average of 16.45. Captain Will Sutherland ranks eleventh with 7 wickets, while Gurinder Sandhu showed plenty in his Renegades debut with 3/29.
Match Prediction
This is an absolute worst case scenario for the Renegades, who are out of form and coming up against a side that has completely dominated them over the history of the competition. Despite the Renegades defeating the Scorchers back in December, Perth holds a 14-6 head to head advantage, including winning 8 of the last 10 meetings between the two teams.
Add to the fact that Mitch Marsh and Jhye Richardson’s returns give the Scorchers international level talent to go with their already stacked side, and their excellent record at home, it’s a scary sight for the Renegades. The Scorchers are 4-1 against the Renegades at Optus Stadium, and will be far too strong for the struggling Renegades.

After a nightmare start to BBL14, Finn Allen has repaid the Scorchers faith in spades over the last two games. Allen has smashed 68 off 31 and 50 off 23 to be the Scorchers leading run scorer in each of their last two games. Allen will be looking to cash in against a Renegades side that is low on confidence, and he’ll be ready to make another big score at home.
