It’s a double header in the Big Bash League this Saturday with the action getting underway from 4.00pm. The Hurricanes take on the Scorchers in the first game of the day and we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the game below.
BBL14 Hurricanes vs Scorchers Betting Tips
Ninja Stadium, Saturday 20th December
Hurricanes
The Cane Train sit at the bottom of the BBL table, having lost their first game in blowout fashion. Batting first, the Hurricanes were rolled for just 74 in their opener against the Renegades. Only skipper Nathan Ellis put up a fight with the bat, scoring 35 off 29 balls as the rest of the Hurricanes batting line-up failed miserably.
The Renegades chased down the 74 run target in just nine overs, which sent Hobart to the bottom of the BBL ladder with a dismal -4.9 net run rate through one game. I wouldn’t expect the Hurricanes to get too panicked at the selection table after just one loss, but opener Matthew Wade could be forced out through injury.
Predicted XI: Mitchel Owen, Caleb Jewell, Shai Hope, Ben McDermott, Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Chris Jordan, Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith, Billy Stanlake, Waqar Salamkheil
Scorchers
The Scorchers find themselves in familiar territory through one game of the BBL14 season. They are in 2nd place on the table, having won their opener against the Melbourne Stars in fairly convincing fashion. Chasing 146, the Scorchers got the job done four wickets down in the 18th over, led by talented youngster Cooper Connolly, who smashed 64 off just 51 balls.
International opening pair Finn Allen and Keaton Jennings both failed to fire in their debut in orange but don’t expect the Scorchers to make any changes to their R1 line-up outside of the potential return of wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who could be released from the Test squad to make his BBL14 debut. If he does come back in, expect Matthew Hurst to make way.
Predicted XI: Finn Allen, Keaton Jennings, Cooper Connelly, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris
Prediction
Hard to look past the Scorchers here given the contrasting performances of both teams in Round 1. The BBL feels like such an inconsistent league when it comes to betting games H2H but there are a few teams who you can rely on week in week out and the Scorchers are definitely one of them.
The Scorchers have a winning record against every BBL team over 14 years of Big Bash Cricket, and I expect them to improve on their current 13-7 record against the Hurricanes.

Perth skipper Ashton Turner has a solid record in 15 games against the Hurricanes over the course of his career. In those 15 games, he averages 26.0 with a strike rate of 135.5 andhose figures are largely in line with his six games at Bellerive Oval. Back his overs here which are relatively low at just 16.5.
