The BBL12 season continues from across Bass Strait on Monday night as the Hobart Hurricanes host the Perth Scorchers. As always, we have you covered with a full previews and BBL betting tips for the clash below.
BBL12 Hobart Hurricanes vs Perth Scorchers Betting Tips
UTAS Stadium, Monday 7.15pm
Hobart Hurricanes
Predicted XI: D’Arcy Short, Ben McDermott, Matthew Wade, Shadab Khan, Tim David, Asif Ali, James Neesham, Joel Paris, Nathan Ellis, Patrick Gabriel Dooley, Riley Meredith
The Cane Train started out as one of the hot picks to win the BBL12 title but their campaign got off to a rocky start on Friday night as they were comfortably beaten by the Melbourne Stars at the MCG. After allowing a century to Joe Clarke and 183 total to the Stars, their own star studded batting line-up failed to fire in reply, with only Matthew Wade the only player surpassing 30.
Despite their loss in Game 1, the Hurricanes are in a great position, particularly with their batting depth, moving forward. They don’t have to rely as much on their top three as they have in previous years, and I think they would do well to get Jimmy Neesham involved in the innings earlier.
Perth Scorchers
Predicted XI: Adam Lyth, Faf du Plessis, Nick Hobson, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Aaron Hardie, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, Matthew Kelly, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff
The Scorchers kicked off their BBL12 season with a win against the Sixers on Sunday night. Batting first, they were in trouble at 5/49 but a 71 run stand between Aaron Hardie and Ashton Agar gave their side a defendable total at 9/155.
They are looking a little thin at the top of the bating order with both Mitch Marsh and Phil Salt out for the entirety of the tournament through injury. This brings the likes of Lyth, Hobson and Hardie to the forefront for the Scorchers, names that have been in and out of the side for the past few years.
Match Prediction
The Canes start as $1.80 favorites at home and I like the value of them to bounce back here. Their batting line-up is world class and I think their bowling performance will improve at home with the likes of Nathan Ellis and Riley Meridith back in familiar conditions. Back them to win this one.
Same Game Multi
Like the odds of both Matthew Wade and Nick Hobson to score 15+ for the first two legs of our Same Game Multi on Monday night. Wade will be playing more of an anchor role for the Canes at No.3 this season, allowing Short and McDermott to do the power hitting at the start of the innings. I think run-a-ball 30s and 40s will come more consistently for the veteran this season.
Nick Hobson at $1.45 for 15+ runs is the best value of the Scorchers runscorers here. Prior to his game against the Stars on Sunday night Hobson had played 6 BBL innings and averages 27.20, passing the 15 run mark four times.
Nathan Ellis to pick up 1+ wicket is the final leg of the SGM. The late game specialist always bowls at the end of the innings for the Hurricanes, so he’s usually a great bet to get at least one in those final few overs when the opposition is taking more risks. Since the start of the last BBL season, Ellis has played 26 top flight T20 matches both home and abroad, he has taken 1+ wicket in 20 of them.
Matthew Wade 15+ Runs
Nick Hobson 15+ Runs
Nathan Ellis 1+ Wicket
