ATP Brisbane Outright Preview
There are some big names featuring in the ATP Brisbane draw to kick off 2025, led by the one and only Novak Djokovic. The Serbian comes into this tournament as the number 1 seed, and will also feature in the doubles draw with Nick Kyrgios, who is making is comeback from multiple injuries.
The top half of the men’s draw looks to be quite stacked, with names including Djokovic, Kyrgios, Alexei Popyrin, Frances Tiafoe, Seb Korda, and even Gael Monfils and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. My first instinct in look at this draw was that the top half felt as though it had players with a higher individual match ceiling than the bottom half.
There is one player that looks to be a reasonable price first up for the season, and that is Matteo Berrettini. I’ve backed him at $100 as a trading selection for the Australian Open, however the $16 here looks to be decent value. He went 36-13 in 2024 in a season that was plagued with injury issues, however that record overall still commands some respect. We last saw him take to the court in the Davis Cup, where he won matches against Kokkinakis and Van De Zandschulp to help Italy claim the title. The toughest potential path home for Berrettini is Jordan Thompson -> Alex Michelson -> Grigor Dimitrov -> Holger Rune -> Djokovic, and I’d be surprised if he had to encounter each of those names.
There are some question marks as always early in a season, however I’m more than happy to ask the question of Berrettini at $16 in the outright market in this one.
