AFL SuperCoach 2024: Forwards – Best Premiums, Mid-Pricers, and Cash Cows
PREMIUM FORWARDS ($500K+)
Jack Macrae (WBD $558,400) – Seems to be the only real lock and load play in the forward line this season for the premium priced players. Had a down year in 2023 but still averaged 99.9. Prior to that he averaged over 115 for five straight years and he’s still on the right side of 30. The only query is his fitness, as he’s battled with some hamstring soreness in the pre-season. If he’s fit for Round 1, lock him in.
Luke Jackson (FRE $547,000) – Stormed home in the second half of 2023 when Sean Darcy went down with injury, and starts this year as the second most expensive forward as a result. Importantly, Jackson has dual position status again this campaign and can be picked in the forwards or rucks, offering coaches plenty of cover/versatility. His scoring might not be out of this world playing second fiddle to Darcy, but he’s still capable of having another great season and pumping out some huge scores.
Dylan Moore (HAW $508,600) – Someone who’s certainly flying under the SuperCoach radar at only 3% ownership is Dylan Moore. He’s put together back-to-back seasons averaging over 90 and is still only 24 years old. He had a slow first half of 2023 but from Round 11 onwards he averaged 96.7, and also finished the season with scores of 117, 120, 90, and 102. If you’re looking for a POD in your forward line, Moore could be your man.

MID-PRICED FORWARDS ($300K-$499K)
Sam Flanders (GCS $494,200) – Is well and truly in SuperCoach coaches plans in 2024 after his massive second half of the season in 2023 where he averaged 106 over his last 10 games. Flanders is clearly a terrific scorer when he has the pure midfield role, but he’s certainly no lock to keep that role for the entire season. Still, the upside at his discounted price is enticing enough to currently be in 36% of teams.
Taylor Adams (SYD $437,200) – Moves onto his third club after formerly playing at GWS and most recently Collingwood. Adams is a proven SuperCoach scorer when he has the inside mid role which he’s expected to have at the Swans. He’s had two seasons averaging over 107 in said role, although the last time that occurred was back in 2020. The other thing to contend with is the constant injuries, which have restricted Adams to only two seasons with 20+ games from his 12-year career. Again, there’s upside here but also big risk.
Bailey Humphrey (GCS $331,200) – Humphrey had a slow start in 2023 which was his first year in the league. He averaged only 36 points across his first five games, but exploded in the month that followed where he reeled off consecutive scores of 117, 101, 90, and 99. The word is that he’s had a strong pre-season and should improve again, so there’s potential to make some decent money with the second-year Sun.
Also consider: Mitch Owens (STK $445,300), Josh Rachele (ADE $413,300) Zac Fisher (NTH $378,600)
ROOKIE/CASH COW FORWARDS (<$300K)
Nat Fyfe (FRE $283,200) – Are we really doing this again? SuperCoach coaches got sucked into a discounted Fyfe last season and it looks as though we’re ready to get burnt again. He’s looking super fit and is expected to play big midfield minutes, which makes him extremely hard to turn down. Extra trades this year means we can take a punt or two on injury-prone players, and Fyfe is the best of the bunch. If he goes large early and you decided not to select him, then you will find yourself behind the eight ball very quickly.
James Jordon (SYD $275,500) – Another similarly priced player to Fyfe with big ownership (currently 22%) is James Jordon. He comes across from the Demons where he spent the first three years of his career but never truly got the opportunity to play big midfield minutes. His best return is a 74.7 average in 2022 and similar output this year would make coaches plenty of cash. Still, there’s a few he has to contend with for the inside mid spot at the Swans, so there’s risk involved at his price.
Harley Reid (WCE $207,300) – The easiest pick this season and 74% of coaches agree, making him the most selected player in SuperCoach in 2024. The #1 pick in the draft comes with plenty of hype and will get all the opportunities in the world at the Eagles. Pick him, start him, and forget about him.
Also consider: James Harmes (WBD $258,300), Jack Billings (MEL $243,900), Caleb Windsor (MEL $180,300), Darcy Wilson (STK $130,800), Sam Darcy, (WBD $123,900), Aaron Cadman (GWS $127,600), Shaun Mannagh (GEE $117,300)
