2024 AFL Round 22 Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs
Sunday 4:40pm AEST, 11th August, Adelaide Oval
Four straight wins has the Western Bulldogs just one game away from third place, after a 51 point demolition of Melbourne. The Dogs led from start to finish and dominated all key statistics recording +55 disposals, +26 inside 50’s, +18 marks and +4 clearances.
Likely All Australian duo Marcus Botempelli (33 disposals, 2 goals) and Adam Treloar (30 disposals, 2 goals) were utterly dominant, while Jamrra Ugle-Hagan caused the Dees plenty of headaches, kicking 2.6 with eight marks.
Adelaide were brave but fell short against Gellong at the Cattery, going down by five points. After trailing by 22 points in the third quarter the Crows kicked five straight goals to lead by 10 points in the final quarter, but Geelong kicked three of the last four goals of the game to hand Adelaide their twelfth loss of the season.
Such is the tight nature of the season, the Bulldogs could be either in third place or outside of the top eight depending on how results go this weekend. The Dogs have put together a serious month of football knocking off Carlton, Sydney, Geelong and Melbourne, so they will be full of confidence heading to the Adelaide oval which is ironically the venue where they last lost a game.
The Bulldogs attacking game has been in hot form over the last month, averaging 98 points per game. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has led the resurgence with 4, 4, 4 and 2 goals across the Dogs last four games. Their improvement in scoring has come from their midfield lifting, who rank third for disposals, third for inside 50’s and fourth for clearances.
Luke Beveridge’s side have a balanced scoring profile ranking first for scores from stoppage, second for scores from centre bounce, fourth for scores in the forward half and fourth for scores from kick in.
Match Prediction: The Bulldogs have had Adelaide’s number in recent years, winning four of their last five games against the Crows. Those four wins have all come by over five goals with an average winning margin of 46 points.
Adelaide have conceded scores of 113, 124 and 90 across their last three games and if the Bulldogs midfield continues to produce the form they have shown over the last month, their defence is going to be exposed by a red hot Bulldogs side. With the Dogs having so much to play for in comparison to the Crows, expect the Bulldogs to continue their great record over Adelaide on Sunday.
