2024 AFL Round 11 Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide vs West Coast
Sunday 4:40pm AEST, May 26th, Adelaide Oval
Once again it was the Harley Reid show at Optus Stadium last week as the 2023 number one draft pick inspired the Eagles to an upset win over the Demons. Reid recorded 21 disposals, 7 clearances and 2 goals, as West Coast bullied Melbourne in a manner that hasn’t been seen often over the last 4 years.
The Eagles had a +21 advantage for inside 50’s, which allowed Jake Waterman to continue his remarkable season, kicking 5 goals. Experienced campaigners Tim Kelly (30 disposals) and Liam Duggan (29) played crucial roles through the midfield and down back.
For the third time in 12 months Adelaide lost to Collingwood by under a goal, in what was a devastating loss given it puts the Crows 10 points outside of the eight. The defeat was further compounded by Izak Rankine injuring his hamstring in the final seconds of a near best on ground performance.
The loss was a missed opportunity for Adelaide who won the disposals +28 and inside 50’s +11, however the Crows couldn’t capitalise despite the ball spending large periods of the fourth quarter inside their forward 50.
Elliott Himmelberg (cheekbone) will also miss for the Crows, with James Borlase, Chris Burgess, Harry Schoenberg, Kieran Strachan and Sam Berry the inclusions in Adelaide’s squad.
In a massive boost for West Coast, Elliot Yeo is set to return from injury, after missing the last fortnight with a groin injury. Andrew Gaff, Clay Hall and Harry Edwards join Yeo in the squad, while Luke Edwards is the only confirmed omission at the time of writing.
Match Prediction: Adelaide will be looking for their midfield to give them the upper hand in this clash, an area the Crows have been strong in despite their underwhelming season. Adelaide rank 3rd for contested possessions, 3rd in clearances and 5th for disposals. If the Crows can win the territory battle and play the game in their front half, it’s going to be a tough ask for the Eagles to score from their defensive half.
Although West Coast have won three of their last five games, all three wins have been at Optus Stadium. The Eagles are 0-5 on the road in 2024, with an average losing margin of 51 points. Given Adelaide’s inconsistency this season as well as West Coast’s improvement, the line at -27.5 could potentially be a risk, so Adelaide wire to wire provides safety and value in this clash.

Matt Crouch 25+ Disposals: Matt Crouch has had a serious resurgence in 2024, averaging 29.9 disposals per game. Crouch has recorded at least 25 disposals in eight of his nine games this season, including 34 disposals against The Magpies last week.
Rory Laird 25+ Disposals: The emergence of Soligo and Rankine as genuine midfielders has seen Rory Laird’s numbers drop, however the two time All-Australian is still averaging 26 disposals per game. Laird and Rankine both attended 59% of centre bounces against Collingwood, so expect Laird’s CBA’s and disposals to increase this week with Rankine out. Laird has hit the 25+ disposal mark in 3 of his last 4 games.
Elliot Yeo 25+ Disposals: Elliot Yeo will be eager to continue his good season after missing the last two weeks, with Yeo producing five consecutive games with over 25 disposals between Rounds 2 and 6. Yeo recorded a season high 30 disposals against Adelaide last season.
