PGA Tour Genesis Invitational Betting Tips
Torrey Pines (South) Course, Thursday 13th - Sunday 16th February
32 year old Thomas Detry became the first Belgian golfer to win on the PGA Tour last weekend as he took out the fan favourite WM Phoenix Open in dominant fashion. Not to take anything away from Detry’s incredible seven shot win, but it was a slightly weakened field to what we have come to expect in Phoenix, given it wasn’t an elevated event this season. That will change this weekend at the Genesis, with a $20m prizepool up for grabs.
The Field
As you’d expect, it’s an absolutely star studded field at the Genesis this week given the prize-pool. Of the top 20 ranked players in the world, all will be in attendance this week outside of the two LIV players in Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton, as well as Xander Schauffele, who is still battling a rib injury.
The likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg sit atop the betting markets. Past winners of the tournament who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Matsuyama, Max Homa and Adam Scott.
Tiger Woods hosts the tournament annually and was slated to play this year, however, the untimely passing of his mother has seen him withdraw.
The Course
Usually played at Riviera Golf Club, the Genesis was relocated this season due to the Calforinian wildfires, meaning we’ll make our 2nd trip to Torrey Pines in less than a month.
Torrey Pines South Course, located in La Jolla, California, is one of the most iconic and challenging golf courses in the world. It sits on coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offering breathtaking views and a unique golfing experience. The course, which opened in 1957, has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments, including the U.S. Open in 2008 and 2021 and is the regular host of the Farmers Insurance Open. With its undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and tricky greens, the South Course demands precision, strategy, and mental toughness from players.
The course is a par 72 and stretches over 7,765 yards, making it a true test of a golfer's skill and endurance. The opening hole, a 451-yard par 4, sets the tone for the round with its narrow fairway and well-guarded green. The signature par 3, the 201-yard third hole, is known for its stunning ocean views and their two-tiered green that slopes sharply from left to right. Players must carefully consider their club selection and shot placement to avoid the challenging recovery shots that come with missing the green.
Betting Tips
Rory McIlroy ($7.50/Top 10 $1.75)
Not a lot of value in Rory this week but I think he showed that he is back at Pebble Beach a few weeks ago. Shot 66, 70, 65, 66 on his way to a two shot win and has been really solid at Torrey Pines in the past. In three trips to the Farmers Insurance, Rory has finished 5th, 3rd and 16th and was great at the 2021 U.S. Open as well, finishing 7th.
Wyndham Clark ($67/Top 30 $1.80)
If you’re hunting a bit more value this week, I like the look of Wyndham Clark. Currently ranked 4th on the OWGR, Wyndham Clark amazingly finds 34 players ahead of him in the betting markets this week, despite turning in a great performance at the Phoenix Open last week, finishing T16. Has made 4/5 cuts at the Farmers Insurance.
