PGA Tour: WM Phoenix Open Betting Tips
TPC Scottsdale, Thursday 8th - Sunday 11th February
It was a lacklustre end to the Pebble Beach Pro Am last week on the PGA Tour as the tournament was called off prior to the fourth round due to inclement weather. Wyndham Clark was awarded his first win of the season after shooting an impressive 60 in R3. We’ll be looking to get back on the winners list this week in Phoenix.
The Field
While it’s not an elevated event this season, the WM Phoenix Open still boasts a blockbuster field jam packed full of some of the best talent in the world. Headlining the field will be the back to back defending champion and No.1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler has the chance to become just the 7th player in the history of the PGA Tour to win the same event three years in a row, potentially joining Steve Stricker (John Deere Classic), Stuart Appleby (Mercedes Championship), Tom Watson (Byron Nelson Classic), Johnny Miller (Tucson Open), Jack Nicklaus (Walt Disney Classic) and Tiger Woods, who has achieved the feat an extraordinary six times.
Other top names amongst the field list include Justin Thomas, Max Homa, Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Hideki Matsuyama. Past winners who will looking to add another trophy to the case include Webb Simpson, Gary Woodland, Kevin Stadler and Matsuyama.
The Course
TPC Scottsdale, situated on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona, spans 7,261 yards with a Par 71. The course poses a well-rounded challenge for golfers, placing a premium on strong ball striking and accurate tee shots due to the abundant water hazards.
What sets TPC Scottsdale apart, however, is not solely its course layout. The distinctive factor lies in the crowd. The Waste Management Open, dubbed the party event, turns spectators into integral participants throughout the four days of play. Golfers must contend with the noise and exuberance of the renowned stadium-style Par 3 16th hole, where some of the PGA Tour's greatest moments have unfolded.
Betting Tips
Justin Thomas ($12/Top 10 $2.45)
I like Justin Thomas to spoil Scheffler’s party this weekend and break through for his comeback win. Thomas had a horror 2023, but has found some form of late, finishing in the top 12 of his last six tournaments in a row. He was T6 at the Pebble Beach on the weekend and has great form in Scottsdale, finishing in the top 17 in his last six trips there.
Hideki Matsuyama ($41/Top 30 $2.05)
Like the value of the Japanese star this week. Matsuyama is a two time winner of the WM Phoenix Open back in 2016 and 2017 and has put together some solid performances in Scottsdale over the last few years, finishing 8th and 29th. Has great course form and is rounding into some solid form of late, finishing 13th a few weeks ago at the Farmers Insurance.
